4Gamer Exclusive: First Look at UBUSUNA’s Visuals, a Message from Hiroshi Iuchi, and a Soundtrack Video Premiere

Today (12/24/2022), M2 published a video for UBUSUNA (“UBUSUNA SOUNDTRACK -EP-”) on the company’s official Youtube channel.

UBUSUNA is the newest game from Hiroshi Iuchi, known for his work at Treasure on titles like Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. Although we’ve heard a few details about the new game’s development, for the most part it’s been shrouded in mystery. But now, we’ve finally gotten a sampling of the game’s music. The video includes background music from the game’s early levels, as well as a text introduction to the game’s story, setting, and the player’s ship.

Along with a peek at the game’s visuals, 4Gamer also got a message from Mr. Iuchi, printed below.

The visuals feature the player’s ship, and there are two designs, for Player 1 and Player 2. Both ships have an elongated core section with what appear to be weaponry containers attached to the left and right sides, but the design and coloring between the two ships are quite different. We’re interested to know if there will be any gameplay differences between the two.

Message from Mr. Hiroshi Iuchi

“Hi, this is Iuchi, the director of UBUSUNA. Along with the premiere of the UBUSUNA SOUNDTRACK -EP- video on Youtube, 4Gamer has written this article about it for us.

What you see pictured is the player’s ship, the “Hou-kesshō” [literal translation is something like “Raiment of the Legendary Bird”]. What do you think?

Until the end of last year, I was having a tough time finding designers and modelers. I tried putting a “help wanted” ad on my personal website, and somehow 4Gamer published an article about that. After seeing that article, Mr. Kususaga Rin contacted me, and now he’s in charge of art direction, mechanical design, and modeling for the game. I think some of you may know him.

Although we’d worked at the same company before, this is our first time working on a project together. Back then I knew he was a hard worker and very talented, but it’s taken 20 years of things going around for us to actually start working together.

Through his introduction, we’ve assembled a team of skilled designers to work on UBUSUNA. Part of the development process is getting lucky with timing and places, and I’m grateful that I was lucky enough to have 4Gamer help us find our current team members.

This Christmas, we hope you enjoy the images and art for the player’s ship, the story introduction on 4Gamer, and the soundtrack EP on M2’s official Youtube channel.

This way even if Santa doesn’t come, you won’t feel like you missed out…

Unfortunately, the full game will take a while longer to finish. All of us are working hard to bring it to you, so I hope for your patience until then.

Thank you, and please continue to keep an eye on UBUSUNA.”
