As of today (March 18), CAVE Interactive announced that they are dissolving a smartphone game production committee related to equity investment affiliates.
On March 30, 2020, the company announced that they had begun development of a new smartphone game and that they would collaborate with other influential companies for the development, management, and production of the game in order to maximize the game’s revenue and success post-release. The production committee was formed to maximize profits for the venture.
Development was progressing smoothly afterwards, but because of things happening over this time like customer needs changing and the business environment transforming along with trends from competitors, the company concluded that it would be difficult to ensure that the game would be profitable in the future market that it was originally envisioned for.
In response, the resources of company board member Yoshiki Okamoto are being reallocated to the development of a new smartphone game that the company can expect to be more profitable, and they have decided not to continue development of the previously announced title. With this decision, because the production committee’s goals could not be achieved, they have decided to dissolve the committee.
Development costs up to this point have been completely covered by the development contractor with the expectation of recovering the full investment. As for how they will use the recovered funds, they are considering an investment into development of the previously mentioned new smartphone game. CAVE is carefully considering how dissolving this committee will affect their May 2022 fiscal year earnings forecast.
