The following is a translated excerpt from Hachima, a Japanese video game blog. The original can be found here. The survey was conducted on the site itself, so I wouldn’t take it as definitive proof one way or the other. See the Dangers of Online Polling for more information.
There are also some reports that Hachima is a pretty anti-Nintendo in general, so please take these results with a grain of salt.
The survey was from January 13th, 2017 18:50 ~ January 14th, 2017 18:00. 3,049 responses with 2,797 were male and 252 were female.

Huh, I wasn’t expecting so many people there to be in favor of a paid online service considering Microsoft (who has pretty much non-existent market share in Japan) was the one who started that industry trend and Sony didn’t start doing that until a few years ago
Their service was so good that it was completely justifiable, even when it first started.
I got GTA V for 30 dollars with Xbox Live Gold. Hopefully nintendo does the same kind of discounts with their games
Not unless the game becomes a Nintendo Select.
Is there similar surveys on other sites?
Wait, if Hachima is an anti-Nintendo supporter, then could this mean he’s a liberal which this poll can be false?
Pretty bizarre… They not very excited about the console, they think it’s expensive, but they REALLY want to pay in order to play online… What?
Precisely. Nonsense to me. They are an odd people that it is expensive but they want to pay in order to play online. WOW! CONFUSION! Human being can be weird and stupid sometimes.
