  1. Incorporating the attack inputs from SMRPG really sold me on this concept; as the predecessor to both Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series, I think Geno would certainly make a worthwhile addition to the Smash roster. Until then, I’ll probably just keep messing with him as a Mii costume.

  3. The one thing I know for certain when it comes to Smash Bros. development and the “likeliness” of a character is that Sakurai and his team love being unpredictable and having us keep guessing! Sure, some popular choices get picked while others feel like they were chosen purely to throw us off! Even with all this new insight about the process of picking a character and building their moveset, as you’ve said, there’s still no guarantee about exactly who Sakurai has in mind for a new character. He’s often called a master troll, and it definitely shows with characters like, say, Wii Fit Trainer and Robin getting picked over Chrom… And of course there’s the “gotcha” moment of saying Zero Suit Samus won’t be in Super Smash bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U only to turn around say say “just kidding, here she is!” 😛

Funny thing about Pac-Man is that he was pretty much a popular choice if only because Bandai-Namco assisted in the development of the game, with a ton of people often citing many of Pac-Man’s post-arcade adventures as possible moveset options. Turns out, Sakurai wanted to emphasis classic Pac-Man more than anything, and classic Namco as well, as it turns out! The fact that he initially turned down Shigeru Miyamoto’s suggestion of Pac-Man for Brawl because he only thought of Pac-Man in his classic “‘pizza with a slice taken out” look back then, and that he specifically said he won’t include Pac-Man if he can’t use his classic look as opposed to his modern look, kind of lets you know just what Sakurai thinks of Pac-Man.

It’s still surreal to think that Cloud actually made it in Smash Bros… I still don’t believe it in many ways. I just hope this means we’ll be getting the Final Fantasy VII remake on the Nintendo Switch.

So on to Geno, ho boy… I remember the following he had back in the Brawl days. It was insane. He was actually one of my most-wanted characters, until people started crying “Geno is overrated” and decided I wanted other characters more. Even still, I still wasn’t against it, I just figured since he’s only been in one game (well actually, two games if you count his cameo in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga) and hasn’t exactly been relevant in years, it probably would never happen… UNTIL Sakurai said he actually wanted Geno to be playable, and I was like “WTF?!” I mean, talk about a turn-around! Of course this leads to me to wonder “if Sakurai wanted Geno to be playable, why hasn’t he?” I guess he figured it was impossible at the time, or that other characters were more popular. Still, the fact that he made Geno a Mii Fighter costume shows that he HAS talked with Square Enix about this at least, and after getting Cloud playable (seriously, like, HOW did it happen, just HOW?!) Geno shouldn’t be a problem for the next Smash Bros… That is, if Sakurai ACTUALLY wanted Geno to be playable as he claimed. Still, he must have seen people voting for Geno in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, so I’m sure he must know ho much people want him, not to mention “Beware the Forest’s Mushrooms”, aka “Forest Maze” was going to be a song in Super Smash Bros. Brawl… Maybe it will actually happen come Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch? I’d definitely love it!

I always did think it was interesting how “Geno” is technically a star being who’s name is unpronounceable, possessing a child’s toy because it looked the strongest (out of Mario, Peach, and Bowser, mind you). This makes me wonder, who or what is Geno in the Mario universe? Is he an action figure? Is he part of a line of toys? He’s popular enough to be on that arcade machine over in Little Fungitown in the Beanbean Kingdom, so there’s that… But just who is he?! So many mysteries surround both the star being and Geno himself… And combined, the “Geno” we meet is a really badass fighter!

Mario and “his other ally”… Mallow gets no love. :[ Except for that one mention as an alternate color.

The “timed hits”/”action command” idea is great, it makes Geno a unique fighter as well as a fanservice character! What else can I say, Geno feels like he’s made for Smash Bros. He’s such a cool character, too… I hope he actually gets in this time around!
