Ever since opening the doors to to allow our wonderful fans to submit guest articles we have seen a great influx in one particular type of article: Dream Smashers. Everyone loves thinking about how characters might work in the Super Smash Bros series and here at Source Gaming we have strict guidelines to follow in regards to how we present and make these types of articles. So far all of our successful submission have followed our guidelines successfully but there is one question that has been asked of me time & time again and that is in relation to the stats. What do I mean when I say that a character has weight class of D? Where does xxxx fall in your height chart? Does the speed chat refer to running or walking speed? So, after a bombardment of all these question I decided to make everyone’s life easier by laying it all out on the table.
Before I jump I would like to direct everyone’s attention to this site: http://kuroganehammer.com/Smash4
This website is incredibly useful for learning the statistics for certain characters in Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS. This website includes everything from air acceleration to weight (although they do not have height). This is the site I used to figure out the following statistics and while I am going to focus only on the three that are required for a Dream Smashers post (Height, Weight and Speed) if you wish to put some extra information like fall speed or dash length then feel free, I won’t stop you.
First I will focus on speed and for these stats the big question is about whether I am referring to the walk speed or run speed. In reality I am actually referring to both. The way I decided to figure out the speed of each character is to take their top walk and run speeds and find the average. Below is a chart that is in ranking order. It tells both the walk and run speed for every character in SSB4 as well as their average and the final ranking that I have given them.
|Character||Top Walk Speed||Top Run Speed||Overall Average||Ranking|
|Zero Suit Samus||1.4||2.1||1.75||A|
|Wii Fit Trainer||1.166||1.696||1.431||C+|
|Mr. Game & Watch||1.1242||1.5264||1.3253||C|
So this chart was easy to figure which ranking goes to which average. Jigglypuff is the slowest character with an E rank while Sonic is the fastest character by a lot, giving him his own special ranking of S.
- E = <1.0
- E+ = 1.0-1.1
- D = 1.1-1.2
- D+ = 1.2-1.3
- C = 1.3-1.4
- C+ = 1.4-.1.5
- B = 1.5-1.6
- B+ = 1.6-1.7
- A = 1.7-1.8
- A+ = 1.8-2.0
- S = 2.o>
Weight is the most straight forward of the bunch so lets just jump right into the chart.
|Mii Fighter (heaviest)||102||B|
|Mii Fighter (default)||100||B|
|Mii Fighter (lightest)||97||C+|
|Wii Fit Trainer||96||C+|
|Zero Suit Samus||80||D|
|Mr. Game & Watch||75||E+|
Just like with the speed averages, the weight averages have a fairly easy to organize range. The lightest is Jigglypuff who is the only E rank and the heaviest is Bowser who is the only A+ rank.
- E = <70
- E+ = 70-79
- D = 80-84
- D+ = 85-89
- C = 90-94
- C+ = 95-99
- B = 100-109
- B+ = 110-119
- A = 120-130
- A+ = 130>
So Height was a bit more complicated to do. In my research I cam across one Smash Boards thread where a user by the name of Tuen had attempted to figure out the height of every pre-DLC character. It is his results that I have based my own on and while I have not worked out the height of the DLC characters, except for Corrin and Bayonetta, I do think the data he provided is more than enough to create a ranking.
|Rosalina and Luma||5.15||B+|
|Zero Suit Samus||4.675||B|
|Mr. Game and Watch||3.075||D|
It was a lot harder to rank these results due to the wider range they encompassed and that a character’s size can change dramatically depending on how they are idle and how they crouch. I decided to go for the height of just their idle animation only as it is from this that all movement from the character comes from. This is why Greninja is the smallest because he ticks low to the ground in his idle animation and Ganondorf is the biggest because he stands strong and threatening above all opponents. For reference, the difference between ranks is 0.39.
- E = <2.49
- E+ = 2.5-2.89
- D = 2.9-3.29
- D+ = 3.3-3.69
- C = 3.7-4.09
- C+ = 4.1-4.49
- B = 4.5-4.79
- B+ = 4.8-5.19
- A = 5.2-5.59
- A+ = 5.6>
So with that I hope I have made my character statistics for Dream Smashers a lot easier to understand. These are the statistics we like to use on Source Gaming so if you ever want to submit a Dream Smashers article then make sure you follow this, and the guest post outline for Dream Smashers, extensively.
