Dream Items – Yo-kai Watch Items, Assist & Showcase Trophies

This guest article was written by Zoniken and is the third part of a trilogy of Dream articles.  Be sure to also check out his Pixiv. For more information on how to submit a guest Dream Smasher article, click here.

First, I have made the Dream Smasher article for Jibanyan, and the Dream Arena article of the Yo-kai World. Now, we have finally reached the final dream article for the Yo-kai Watch series in Super Smash Bros., which I will introduce the Dream Items from the Yo-kai Watch franchise. I really want to thank you for reading this so far, as I enjoyed making the possibilities of how Yo-kai Watch series would work in Smash.

It is a courtesy for any third party character to bring their stage and sometimes an Assist Trophy in Smash, but we haven’t got any regular items from the third parties yet. Although Bandai Namco brought Boss Galaga and the Special Flag to Smash for 3DS/WiiU, there weren’t any items brought from other third parties like Capcom, Sega, and even Square Enix. So if there’s a possibility for any third parties to bring their dream items to Smash, what would Yo-kai Watch bring? An actual Yo-kai Watch that summons Yo-kais as supportive fighters doesn’t seem to work since we can replace that with the Assist Trophy. However, there is an item that would work perfectly for Smash, which I bring the “dream” item from Yo-kai Watch 3: Sushi/Tempura, the Yo-kai Blaster.

Regular Item: Yo-kai Blaster

Yo-kai Blaster (not the mini-game title from Yo-kai Watch 2: Boney Spirits/Fleshy Souls) is the “Dream Item” invented by the Yopple, Inc.’s former CEO, Steve Jaws, which is compatible with the newest Yo-kai Watch, the “Yo-kai Watch Dream”. It was built for the main protagonist, Nate and Inaho, to fight alongside their befriended Yo-kais against their enemies. By inserting the Yo-kai Medal in the blaster, it’ll shoot out a projectile to damage the enemy, or help to befriend them; but the projectile’s motion, size, and effect vary by using a certain tribe of the medal.

In Smash, the projectile will differ on certain fighter once they’re equipped, expressing which tribe these fighters belong to shoot that certain projectile. For example, Mario will belong to the Brave Tribe and shoot the “Brave Bazooka”, and Pikachu being the Charming Tribe to shoot the “Charming Machine Gun”. It may be very difficult to actually implement but not impossible. Here’s the list of which character belongs to which tribe, and which tribe uses the certain projectile; bringing the whole cast of fighters from Smash for 3DS/Wii U, including Jibanyan himself, and the rejected fighters like the Ice Climbers and Wolf just in case. However, these selections are simply my personal speculations, so some of them may be misplaced in the wrong category.

Editor’s Note: an item like this would be incredibly difficult to program for Smash and so may never happen. However, I can’t say that with absolute certainty as it is not impossible but let us know what you all think in the comments. Back to you Zoniken.

Tribe Name Characters* Projectile Pic and Description
Brave

Mario, Link, Fox, Lucario, Roy, Pit, Shulk, Sonic, Mega Man, Cloud

Brave Bazooka: Shoots a large red projectile containing a heavy damage. Normally it’s slow, but it’ll fly a little fast, similar to the fully charged Super Scope and Samus’ Charge Shot in Smash.

Mysterious

Rosalina & Luma, Zelda, Young Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, Lucina, R.O.B., Pac-Man

Mysterious Cutter: Shoots the widely spinning yellow disc to slice enemies, containing a large damage and a penetration.

Tough

Bowser, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, King Dedede, Falco, Ike, Little Mac, Ryu

Tough Shotgun: Shoots a widely spreaded bullets of orange projectiles. In Smash, it’ll shoot out a three-way projectiles; one shooting forward and others diagonally upwards and downwards.

Charming

Toon Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Ice Climbers, Jibanyan

Charming Machine Gun: Shoots a rapid-firing pink bullets that contains less damage, similar to the rapid-firing Super Scope in Smash.

Heartful

Peach, Ivysaur**, Ness, Marth, Palutena, Pikmin & Olimar, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt

Heartful Magnum: Shoots a green bullet. It is used as a regular gun, similar to the Ray Gun item.

Shady

Shiek, Ganondorf, Meta Knight, Wolf, Robin, Mr. Game & Watch, Dark Pit, Bayonetta

Shady Sniper: Shoots a long blue laser containing a large amount of damage, but it takes a long time to reload for the next shot.

Eerie

Luigi, Dr. Mario, Bowser Jr., Mewtwo, Lucas, Wario

Eerie Grenade: Shoots a middle ranged purple orb that contains large amount of damage, and it’ll explode once it hit anything solid.

Slippery

Yoshi, Charizard, Squirtle**, Greninja, Corrin, Snake

Slippery Homing: Shoots a small cyan laser that contains less damage but a homing effect to chase after the nearby enemy.

* Mii Fighters will be chosen randomly.
** Pokemon Trainer wasn’t added in this list because he doesn’t fight as he’s in the background.

Assist Trophy: Blizzaria

Now to the Assist Trophy. As I explained before, using the actual Yo-kai Watch to summon supportive Yo-kais like the Pokeball doesn’t work perfectly as we can replace that with the Assist Trophy, and that Yo-kai who can fit in that position is the snow princess Yo-kai, Blizzaria.

Blizzaria is the S-ranked Charming tribe Yo-kai, who can control powerful ice attacks, and popular among many fans of the game due to her cute appearance and kind personality. In Smash, once she’s been summoned in the battle, she’ll breathe out her Soultimate Attack “Shiny Snowdrifts” as the background turns blue, causing the freeze effect to every fighter except her summoner. The effect will continuously damage fighters dealing with 10% each for two times a second but instantly freezes the fighters if their damage is over 50%. Her attack will last for 10 seconds.

Showcase Trophies: Yo-kai Watch series

Finally, we’ll introduce the all-stars of Yo-kai Watch in their Smash Bros. trophy styles! It wouldn’t be Smash without the showcase trophies, and Jibanyan wouldn’t join in without it either. Here are the characters that might possibly appear as a showcase trophy in Smash.

Name & Description Trophy Image
Jibanyan

No matter how dull or busy this cat Yo-kai can be, he finally gets summoned into the world of Smash Bros.! In Smash, he may be small and weak, but never underestimate his powerful specials as his training wasn’t futile. Now the only question is…can he face against his electrifying mouse rival for the first time, and even defeat the zero gravity race car with his almighty Paws of Fury?

As Jibanyan fuses with Whisper, he’ll evolve into his ultimate form Buchinyan, and perform his Soultimate Attack Flurry of Furry as his Final Smash. His punches will spread entirely forward as fighters get drawn in, giving them more and more damage. Now, who said nobody needs Whisper in Smash? At least this proves he’s useful!

Blizzaria

She’s the snow princess who can control ice power. While her previous form Frostina couldn’t control her powers, this evolved form can easily call out the snow during summer, and even freeze an erupting volcano instantly! In Smash, she can lower the temperature of the entire stage and instantly freeze her enemies. But do not worry, she’s actually warm and kind to people. Just don’t make her mad, okay?

Yo-kai Blaster

No, this is not a hair dryer. It is a new weapon created by the former Yopple, Inc’s CEO, Steve Jaws, as being compatible with the new “Yo-kai Watch Dream”. With this blaster, Nate and Inaho can fight along their befriended Yo-kais, which they’ll use a Yo-kai Medal to use various projectiles depending on its tribe. In Smash, the projectile will differ depending on who uses it, identifying which tribe they belong.

But even he’s hated by everybody, he’s still loved by some fans out there…right?

Both of them are terrifically strong, but Robonyan F has problems dealing with his own awkward errors, while his ancestor is too addicted on cutting things. But eventually, both of them will always be loyal to his friends, and “they’ll be back” whenever help is needed.

Just make sure you don’t fuse them into Reversa, it’ll be insane.

I could’ve added more if possible, but bringing every Yo-kais to this article was too impossible. So I’ve chosen the ones that’s been important throughout the series. So far, that’s it for now!

Starting from Jibanyan’s Dream Smasher article, it has been my enjoyable moment of creating these dream articles with full of imaginations and possibilities. Thinking of how things would work was difficult in the beginning, but imagining many times about it and writing it down was quite fun for me. Eventually, Yo-kai Watch is an extremely popular franchise in Japan, and although the series are still brand new to the West, its popularity is growing little by little, so it wouldn’t be odd that Yo-kai Watch may join Smash Bros. in some form. Maybe not for the rumored Smash for Wii U port for Nintendo Switch, but maybe the next generation of Smash in the future. Once again, thank you reading this article, and thank you Source Gaming for editing and posting this article.

I have spent a lot of my life studying various histories and so I am super familiar with sourcing, which is pretty essential for this site and just a good thing to do in general so you do not spread lies. I have a huge fascination with the old days and ips with Nintendo. There is so much potential for old franchises like Balloon Fight, Marvelous, Nazo no Murusame Jo and more to come back in the modern age. At least Smash celebrates those games! My focus for source gaming are the Dream articles and working on Project Omega. I hope you enjoy reading my work.

  1. Sorry for the late comment! Been busy for a while…
Anyways, thank you for posting and editing this article for me! Everything looks great!

I do agree the Yo-kai Blaster may look impossible as it may relate with the transformation mechanic that characters like Zelda/Shiek formally had, which may damage the hardware. I chose this item because it was really unique than choosing a regular Yo-kai Watch or any supportive items, and it could’ve been interesting how the attacks would change if certain fighters uses it.

But even then, making this article did took a long time, but it was fun at the same time. Although this will end my article regarding to the Yo-kai Watch series, I’m planning to make more other articles like this in the future. Actually, I’ve completed several articles now, but still editing for further changes to make things sense. I might plan to send soon once everything’s done, so stay tune for more!

Once again, thank you so much for this article! Also I really thank PushDustIn and NantenJex for the help on editing and providing advice, it was a great help!
