Female and Male Corrin amiibo Data Spotted in New Fire Emblem!?

Fire Emblem Echoes is leaking online, with tons of spoilers being posted on 4chan.

Note: The game has been leaked 17 days early.

Øscar, has been reposting the findings on his Twitter. Just recently, he posted evidence that points to 2 Corrin amiibo — a male and a female version.

This means that it’s quite possible that two of the four unannounced Smash amiibo are Corrin — with the other two being Bayonetta and Cloud.

Update:

Here’s a video of the female Corrin amiibo in action!

  2. Its official: I will cry if Alph doesn’t get an amiibo now.

  3. This seems like opening a can of worms. What about Female Robin? Alph? The Koopalings? Male Wii Fit Trainer (some probably wants one)? I guess if they port Smash then these would be good for a new wave or two, but if they don’t then its simply a strange and unfair anomaly.

  4. Ah well. There’s always that chance they could still be working on some surprise characters, but I’m beginning to get doubtful at this point. If there is a Smash port it would make sense to announce the remaining 4 amiibo alongside the game reveal and just leave it at that. Why they would have 2 Corrins and not give the same treatment to the other alts is a bit weird though.

  5. My theory on why Female Corrin would receive an Amiibo while other alternates do not is because Female Corrin is much more popular than Male Corrin. When it comes to other characters with alternates such as Robin, Olimar or Wii Fit Trainer, their default is the most popular so Nintendo won’t bother to make alternate Amiibo for them.

This puts Corrin in the unique position of being the only character where the alternate is more popular. This gives me a feeling that when it comes time for the next instalment or perhaps even in a Switch port of the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, they’ll make Female Corrin, the default instead.

    • Fair, but a lot of the Smash community seems to like female Robin more even if the Fire Emblem community likes male Robin more.

    • If popularity was running Smash – Ridley and King K. Rool would’ve been playable characters by now.

By a slight rule of thumb, the amiibo were modeled after their default costume in the CCS, which was why we got two ROB amiibo – since Famicom ROB was the default costume in the Japanese release while the NES inspired ROB was the default in the Western release.

Having two Corrins does indeed blow this out of the water, but then the question becomes as to why even consider making an amiibo of Male Corrin when you have the more popular Female Corrin? For sake of consistency? For an exclusive function in Echoes for the fans of the less popular Male Corrin? When for arguments sake they would share the exact same function in Smash?

I mean, the same argument could be set for ROB in the same case – Famicom ROB is really no different than ROB in all form and function, except for Yoshi’s Woolly World where that’s the only distinction (and I believe only both costumes are in the 3DS version, the Wii U version might be dependent on the game’s region – I haven’t checked.) But at the very least with ROB there was actual consistency in regards to Smash, the series that particular amiibo was made for.

Female Corrin may be a choice, but she’s not the default, and if they’re doing this now, why haven’t they done the same thing with at the very least one off costumes like Female Robin and Alph (The Koopalings would be a retailer’s nightmare, especially when they would all turn out to function as Bowser Jr.)

Popularity? Consistency? Who knows? What I’m more concerned with is the fact that even though we’ve known these amiibo to be Smash amiibo (hopefully they are, there’s always that possibility that they’ll not do it regardless of how they might be) is where the heck is Smash for Switch – why release these amiibo if the game they are paired with are not only not on the hot topic system, but a game that has been a little over two years old? (Regardless, Smash 4 is still a great game.)

  6. I would agree that she’s much more popular than her male counterpart, but I disagree that that is the reason why there seperate. She’s only popular in regards to male corrin, compared to the rest of the cast she isn’t. Im almost certain female corrin is nowhere near as popular as the koopalings, but they didn’t get an amiibo.

    • Well, the Koopalings have cost going against them. That’s seven more amiibos to design, make, and sell, and I highly doubt most people would buy them as a set (Over $70) and I question their individual marketability. But, yes, if they do it for one, they should be obligated to do it for all.

      • I agree 100%, which is why I don’t expect them to get their own amiibo. But how much more profitable is female corrin ? Is she profitable enough to warrant the same character twice. The same character that not many people are too fond of. I highly doubt it.

        • Well, no, probably not. For example, I’ve collected most of the roster, but I won’t get either of them. But Nintendo seems intent on pushing Fire Emblem, even if the Corrins’ addition to Smash was not particularly well received, and Fates, well, was Fates.

  7. Wait, I don’t get it. If female Corrin is planned to have an amiibo while there’s already a male Corrin as default, why didn’t they make the same thing with the female Robin? I know the female Corrin was very popular according to Fate’s popularity poll, but having two Corrin amiibo with different gender, doesn’t seem to be fair towards other Smash fighters with alternate appearances. Not just only the female Robin, but with Alph, Koopalings, male Wii Fit Trainer, other Villagers, and even the overall Wario and hood-jacket/wire-framed Little Mac. Having two Corrin amiibos with different genders, while Robin having none, doesn’t seem to make any sense.

I have a theory to this case. I wouldn’t think this is some “belated April Fools joke”, but maybe its not fake either. But looking back with the amiibo’s system, one amiibo can save their data no matter what palette used on that character. In other words, a male Robin amiibo can save female Robin’s data. What if the female Corrin’s data from Smash was recorded in the male Corrin’s amiibo, and brought her into Echoes due to that effect? That could explain how the female Corrin appears in Echoes, due to Smash’s data saved in the amiibo figure. If that work on Robin’s amiibo figure, which might bring the female Robin in game if possible, then that prove something. Otherwise, having two Corrin amiibos with different gender still doesn’t make any sense, while other figures doesn’t.

  8. Wasn’t there a rumor of there being data for 4 more amiibos in Smash?

Cloud, Bayo. Male and Female Corrin. It matches up.

  9. Nice. Sakurai gets his way once again. I don’t even understand why Corbin is in Super Smash Bros. to begin with when he’s last tuesday already. A new Fire Emblem game with new amiibo is already in its way next month.
