  2. Yes Sakurai should. It’s not Smash without Sakurai!

Peridot Gem on July 2 |
    • One may have said the same thing for Zelda and Miyamoto once upon a time.

      Arthur 97 on July 2 |
      • Yet the series is drastically different. There is no developer like Sakurai. Especially when he is crazy focused on the details. Which is what makes Smash. Smash.

Peridot Gem on July 7 |
  3. I thought the Ridley problem was it wouldn’t properly represent the character.

Sakurai takes too much control. Honestly for a game like this you should probably have more than one producer.

    Arthur 97 on July 2 |
    • He takes so much control because it’s his game! He MADE the series.

Peridot Gem on July 2 |
      • Yes, but they have teams for a reason. Plus, if you have more than one producer, then maybe they can help counter each others preferences. Sakurai may not do it intentionally, but it is nigh impossible to be completely unbiased. Even he could use some checks.

        Arthur 97 on July 2 |
        • True, having someone to counter your ideas is a good thing to have.
I mean if I am correct, Brawl was the first game Sakurai had total control,
which is probably how the tripping feature got in unchallenged.

          Smash44 on July 3 |
    • I don’t think a playable Ridley would be worth the risks that would accompany a new director (such as, y’know, the game potentially sucking).

      Burb on July 16 |
  4. Oh, yeah, and his lack of Nintendo focus may already be veering the series away from its roots.

    Arthur 97 on July 2 |
    • “Lack of Nintendo focus” 6 out of 58 characters are 3rd parties. What are you on and can I have some?

Peridot Gem on July 2 |
      • I said veering, not hurdling violently out of control.

        Arthur 97 on July 2 |
        • Well he ain’t veering just for giving them their unique tidbits like everyone else.

Peridot Gem on July 7 |
  5. Most people’s opinion of characters in Smash. More Characters is More Better.

About Melee rerelease, I would think it would work best as a Virtual Console game, with a few changes. Rename this version “Super Smash Bros. Melee: Tournament Edition”. It would use the NTSC version as a base, have all characters unlocked from the start, have the ability to remember information to deal with pools and other tournament setups, and have the default setting for stocks, time, and items be the tournament setting for Tournaments (IDK what that is). Might be missing stuff, but I only got into the series with Brawl, so sorry in advance.

    DekZek on July 2 |
    • The problem with a Melee HD would be a lack of general appeal. So virtual console is probably the best way to go.

      Arthur 97 on July 3 |
  6. I think he will return but I think it is time he washed his hands of the game. If he doesn’t know who is getting in it will put him in the perspective of fans. I’m also curious to see what kind of decisions a different producer would have in mind.

At the end of the day he cannot make the game forever and if he isn’t going to stop now when does he plan to?

    haruhisailormars on July 3 |
    • Then it’s best he finds a way to stop the series entirely. Like make a Sm4sh port on the NX but with some new content or just expansion DLC.

Peridot Gem on July 4 |
  7. Sakurai’s name is attached to Smash forever. He is aware of this since he left HAL Laboratory. So, even if he says he’s not going to make another Smash, he comes back one way or the other, because Smash doesn’t quit from him.

    fabricioogrande on July 3 |
  8. No. As you can tell, he thinks of his own opinions too highly. He always compares himself to George Lucas when he has yet to direct his own IP, so saying that he’s the creator of every Nintendo series is really stretching it. Would you consider a compilation of IPs a single IP?

He seems to be content with Fire Emblem, so let him direct his Fire Emblem. Any other employee in his chair would at least recognize the value of a 3rd DK character.

    backup368 on July 4 |
    • He thinks of them so highly because he’s the one running the show. His opinions matter. You can’t be this narrow minded and dense.

Peridot Gem on July 4 |
      • He has had this stigma that Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem are the future of the company, and if he was correct, they wouldn’t be getting beaten in sales by a Donkey Kong game that’s twice the price & is on a system that less people owned (Trop. Freeze). Source: VGChartz

        backup368 on July 4 |
        • No he doesn’t. Roy got in because it was purely the Smash fanbase’s fault. Not Sakurai. If Young Link or Pichu had more demand they would’ve made it as Melee DLC instead. Corrin was advertisement for an upcoming game.

Kid Icarus got certain things because they were the only option. Name another series that’s as talkative as Kid Icarus other than Star Fox and actually poke at the 4th wall.

Codecs were removed. Since one of Kid Icarus Uprising’s charm is to talk while battle is going on they had it to replace the codecs.

Inaccurate. Sakurai has no place on the matter and he knows that. He just has Smash base things off of whats happening recently and what not. Since FE made it’s OWN separate comeback with Awakening and Fates. It’s understandable why they have so much. FE actually puts in effort to expand their cast of characters. Country series doesn’t. It’s just the 4 Kongs over and over with the recent dropping some Kongs and K Rool who belongs to Rare now.

That is not Smash nor Sakurai’s fault that Country characters except for Diddy fail to hold solid ground.

Peridot Gem on July 4 |
          • Roy was in the game because Sakurai knew that people would cough up the money to get him back. I don’t know what that has to do with it, honestly.

I don’t recall anybody talk about Kid Icarus today. If anything, Sakurai is using Smash Bros to add value to his series, instead of the other way around. It didn’t take Smash Bros. to make Mario & Zelda popular. They already were, as is Splatoon.

I don’t get what codecs had to do with it either, but another alternative to that would have been Doc Louis’s pep talks in Punch-Out!! in between rounds.

If you want inaccurate, just look where you typed “K. Rool who belongs to Rare”. If that’s the case, then why is does he appear in Smash Bros.?

Nintendo just recently released the DKC trilogy for the eShop on the 3DS, so I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that Nintendo no longer honors it, if anything it’s Sakurai who doesn’t honor it.

            backup368 on July 4 |
          • It’s involved because the Smash fanbase was apart of their being too many FE characters. Without Roy there would’ve been only 5. On you and the rest of the fanbase. Not Sakurai.

Kid Icarus didn’t get popular at all. Uprising was made by Sakurai which he had to every right to port stuff from HIS OWN GAME to oh wait. HIS OWN GAME. He’s not doing shit for “popularity for the series” he’s doing it because he has every right to.

            Nope.

He doesn’t. At all. Not a boss or anything.

Stop acting like Country brought much new that can be worked into Smash. All it brought was some partner mechanic that was planned to be included in Brawl but didn’t work out and stage gimmicks. Sakurai already represented Country just right. He doesn’t have to a shoehorn an irrelevant no base character just to do that. Nintendo put Mario RPG on the eshop does that mean the series made it’s own comeback and became a major series? No. Stop grasping for straws.

Peridot Gem on July 4 |

Peridot Gem on July 4 |
          • Actually no, it was Sakurai’s obsession being the reason that there are too many FE characters. The reason why there is so many of them is simply because they start the story from scratch every game or two. None of them, not even Marth, has the recognition of a Diddy Kong.

Exactly, it’s not because Kid Icarus is a great classic series, but simply because it’s his pet project that it gets more characters than a system seller to one of Nintendo’s most popular consoles. Such a great, epic game to get two whole new characters in Smash Bros, right? At the least, he should have went with just Palutena or Medusa.

He doesn’t? Okay. You must be living in a different world than me.

Donkey Kong was from the Mario universe before he got his own series of games. Super Mario RPG is a spinoff, but now that you mention it, where is Paper Mario? But I guess that’s a story for another day. Switching partners in-game was in many other games before it was introduced in DKC1, like Lethal Weapon & Castlevania III for the NES.

            backup368 on July 4 |
          • Actually, yes. Sakurai had no obsession. The only intended FE characters were Robin and maybe Corrin. It was the your guys’ fault for the fanbase having such an demand for an one-off like Roy to return. Since Sakurai needed Melee part of the DLC and he had the most demand. Yeah. Marth has been in more than two of the 14 games he is the Pikachu of the franchise. Ike has been in more than one. Robin and Lucina are actual main characters of a game and is to represent Awakening. Corrin = Advertisement = Dumb luck and pure timing. Roy only got in Melee because of advertisement and was never going to be used again. If Corrin is dropped watch the Smash fanbase hypocritically demand for him to return.

Kid Icarus is a great series. He’s been trying to give it, it’s recognition since Melee. It’s been around since Famicom! The series deserved what it got. Especially one that’s been unfairly neglected for so long. Dark Pit isn’t a whole character. On technical terms. He was included extra because he had slightly different stats that would take little time to put in Smash. Alph from the Pikmin series was going to apart of the trio too with rock pikmin but since Olimar was already a pain to implement because of the 3ds. It didn’t work out.

Yeah cause a trophy totally means he had a major inclusion in Smash. Denial.

So? That makes things worse. Country really did not have anything that isn’t already represented in Smash.

Peridot Gem on July 5 |
          • I didn’t care to have him back, and he was optional; nobody forced anybody to pay for him. Marth is more like the Liu Kang of the franchise. A series like this still doesn’t call for 6 characters, as 4 or 5 of them are now obsolete. Characters such as Dixie Kong & King K. Rool are not, since at least there has been a demand. After 13 years of asking Sakurai, why can’t he just give it to them? Ike hasn’t even been in a Fire Emblem game since 2007. Roy, in 2003. Robin & Lucina are already obsolete, so putting them in Smash Bros. was just a waste of time now that Fire Emblem has yet another “shiny new toy”. So why the double standard, Sakurai?

Dark Pit was actually in Brawl, before he debuted in KI:U. As an alternate color for Pit, people have been wondering, “Why does this black colored Pit look a lot darker from the other colors”? Isn’t that funny, how he had plans to make this lazy clone a “Nintendo All Star” before giving him his own game to appear in. That’s what he should have stuck being, a color. Sakurai was furious when people point this out to him, because he knows he pulled a Paul Feig, even insulting the fans in a similar way. Now that you think of it, he is kind of like the Paul Feig of the game industry.

You argument was that King K. Rool is Microsoft’s property. Clearly he isn’t. They are free to use the character however the like.

But Fire Emblem needs a new character for every game that comes out? Pit needs to have an evil version of himself while Mario, Link, Samus, etc. don’t?

            backup368 on July 5 |
          • There’s been demand for every FE character. Even non lords. So what you’re blabbering about is irrelevant. Also since Roy is optional to buy you shouldn’t be complaining about too many FE characters then since two of them are optional to buy. Excuses. King K Rool and Dixie don’t have much demand and are irrelevant. Sakurai doesn’t have to listen to them just because a minority of americans actually like King K Tool. Ike is a popular lord who was added when he was the most recent one aka Brawl. Roy was advertisement for Sword of Seals. Robin and Lucina was to represent Awakening which single handley saved the series from death idiot. That’s like shaming Metroid for adding a new character from a new game that saves the series and accuse Sakurai of bias. There is no double standard just you being an idiot and making blind assumptions.

Your rambling is pointless. Dark Pit had different stats so he became his own character which took little time to add in. Whining over extra is flat out stupid. But knowing you. I’m not surprised.

King K Rool is long irrelevant who was dropped from the recent Country series as a whole. He didn’t leave an impact in history either. So that just makes requester’s reasons look desperate. Sakurai has no reason to include K Rool. Since when was Shadow Mario (who’s already in a final smash), Dark Link and Dark Samus used in a recent game? Your point is void and makes zero sense once more. Pit’s evil version of himself was added in because of pure EXTRA. Use your brain. SLIGHTLY different stats. If he had completely different stats all together like Dark Samus he would’ve stayed a pallet swap because that would’ve took too much time to add in. Yes Fire Emblem does they have entirely different reasons to make it in.

The recent palettes got a lot of love. While you’re at it you might as well accuse him for Punch Out, Pikmin and Mario bias too huh? Oh why not just accuse him of having an bias toward Pokemon since Mewtwo is DLC!?

Marth is the Pikachu of the franchise and was already planned for 64.

Roy = Advertisement for Sword of Seals and was thrown in with Marth

Ike showed up in not in one but two games as the main character. Since Roy was kicked out leaking Marth as the only FE rep. He had every right to make it in.

Robin is the main character of Awakening. He’s the final boss too. Awakening saved the series also. So it’s justified he made it with Lucina who was last second extra.

Roy only returned because of the Smash fanbase. Period.

Corrin is advertisement for Fates which was in the right spot. If any series above FE had a new game that was in a similar spot it would’ve had the ad rep.

          • @Magcargo

Mewtwo was never held back for money, there is literally not a single spec of proof that can support your point. How are you trying to say you don’t make up baseless conspiracy theories when that’s one right there. All I’m seeing from you regarding DK is “Nuh uh!!! Your just biased!!!”. Those two major candidates have their flaws that held them back. If we go off of the current situation K Rool and Dixie have a high chance of being in the possible next game. Sakurai didn’t do anything involving DK out of bias. He was representing Donkey Kong off of his prime. The reason he’s such a popular character. The arcade games, Diddy was thrown in along the line because he’s such a popular character that holds tons of ground. Even then he was supposed to be an Ice Climber type character with Dixie. But since Brawl was a straight up mess. Lots of planned things had to get scrapped.

Which Smash already has. It’s a good game series none the less that everyone loves. Clones or not. They don’t affect anything negative. You’re only thinking in personal hate if you believe they make it “less professional”. Smash Brothers was never made in the thought of being an professional crossover.

“Nuh uh” “Nuh uh” “Nuh uh” ????? You didn’t even try to counter this or try to prove me wrong the slightest just “Yeah sure” which is something I would directly say. It’s clear I know about the clones more than you do. Which is to be expected since you hate them so much.

Already did. Sakurai only listens to professional criticism that can actually help him improve his game. Not something that is just in a bias hate toward something minor that the fans love like the clones which doesn’t touch the overall game’s impact. If it was like Melee’s to where half the roster is clones maybe but it’s not. He is not above criticism. He knows when he is wrong like every other human being. Instead of flat out admitting it he just fixes it and improves it. He has an ego but not as big as you’re trying to make it out to be.

Denial and strawmans. You just repeated the same stuff. I’ve already countered this. If the Koopalings were their own character the fans wouldn’t of cared how pointless that was because they love the characters. Alph fans wished to have him as an clone than a playable character. They’re sad to find out Alph couldn’t make the cut with the clone trio. Dark Pit and Lucina are only situational extra like every single other clone in this game not to overrep anything. That is illogical. If he didn’t strive for improvement the game wouldn’t of been better than the other games even changing certain parts of movesets and animations to make it flow better. Making Diddy Kong less stiff and awkward. Making every character more alive, balancing the characters more and so much more. Just because it’s not perfect doesn’t mean he isn’t trying to improve. L.

          • Wow. There needs to be actual rules on this site. Apparently you can insult other users but the only comments that get removed are one’s that call Sakurai out on his bullshit (hooray for freedom of speech!).

It’s simply because there’s 40-50 new characters for every story. Think of Fire Emblem as Pokemon with its many generations, except it’s a far less popular version of Pokemon that the director desperately tries to advertise to us.

Funny you mention King K. Rool, because three months after that “Smash Ballot” opened, King K. Rool became a mii costume, as if Sakurai was aware of his demand, but abruptly dismissed him because it wasn’t a character he wanted to “win”. It’s a “fan ballot” until you tamper with it.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance only sold 540,000 copies on Gamecube. Not many people at the time even knew who Ike was, or were interested in his game.

Actually, it was the playable demo that saved the series from “death”, as people were finally able to try it out free of charge on a handheld tens of millions of people had.

I’d rather have one unique character over 3 clones whose only purpose is to occupy space. I hardly ever even use them, so it wouldn’t make any difference if they were there or not. Wasn’t it Sakurai that said “quality over quantity”? So he basically lied.

Kind of like the dog, Ness, & Captain Falcon, & every FE character bar Corbin. Why would you not want one of your most successful franchises going back to 1981 to have a villain character on the roster? That’s ludicrous. I didn’t know “recent” meant 2010, because what was recent 4 years later was Donkey Kong.

Many colors alluded to other characters from their respective series, but who was Dork Pit in 2008? This was Sakurai’s “original” character. Just turn the main character “dark”, we’ve got Meta Knight & now we got Dork Pit, who’s next, J-Pop Chrom?

So it had to be Corrin? Right, because there weren’t any other games they could have promoted at the time, such as Mario & Luigi: PAPER Jam, Hyrule Warriors: Legends, Starfox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X…

Source Gaming Team on July 7 |
          • Which is the reason FE got as much as Pokemon. They know how to put diversity between their casts. That’s literally the reason Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem got an increase of content. Every series in Smash that has character diversity ends up having more characters. Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus. Get your facts straight. He is nowhere near desperate.

So did Geno. Be glad he even acknowledged that failure and irrelevant character. As I said. Sakurai has no reason to shoehorn K Rool. Especially when he has different plans on how the DLC will play out. He organized it instead of shoehorning characters with a 10$ sign on them. Even if he did there was a lot of better choices.

Just because you don’t know who he was doesn’t mean you speak for everyone nitwit. Ike is a popular lord who his inclusion is deserving. You’re saying Fire Emblem a 14 game series should’ve got ONE rep? That is insanely selfish.

You really do know nothing about Fire Emblem. Awakening saved the series from dying. It was literally the last planned game in the series. http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/25/fire-emblem-awakening-was-almost-the-last-game-in-the-series/

You CAN’T get a unique character over clones. That is not how clones work. Stop running your mouth with baseless info. https://sourcegaming.info/2015/08/01/smash-clones/ clones take less time than a unique character. You will never get a clone traded for a unique character. He didn’t lie about anything.

Ness was relevant for his time back in 64. Same case for Falcon.

Lucina and Robin is represent Awakening and give more diversity to Fire Emblem than just blue haired swordsmen.

Marth is the iconic Pikachu of the franchise. He was planned to be in 64 AND he was still relevant back then since he showed up in 3 or more of the 14 games so.

Ike was the most recent lord and since there was only one rep for Fire Emblem in Brawl he was in and has every right to stay.

Roy was on the same boat with K Rool but as I said. The fanbase forced him back.

That dog is tons more popular than K Rool. He was the internet’s pre troll face. He had an impact on Nintendo’s history which is what Smash’s about: Nintendo’s history. Something K Rool didn’t.

Dark Pit isn’t supposed to be original. His literal back story was being an mirror image of Pit that came to life. Do you know ANYTHING? Dark Pit had a slight weapon difference so he was in. The recent alts got a lot of love. Little Mac has 16 color pallets. Alph was planned to be a playable character. There was a tiny bit of extra effort there to put in the Koopalings as alts instead of recolored Bowser Jrs. What? You’re gonna accuse him of Pikmin, Punch Out and Mario bias too!? Pitiful.

Fire Emblem Fates was already released in Japan and is upcoming game in America. Basically, in the right spot. Paper Jam was released before the direct. Xenoblade X came out in April 2015 so it wasn’t an upcoming game. Hyrule Warriors isn’t an upcoming game either! Zero didn’t come out until the end of April 2016. Way too long. You can’t be THIS dense.

            Just stop.

          • Don’t worry about him. This guy always responds to me on Nintendo Everything where he used the same flawed and double-standards for arguments. He tries to justify Kid Icarus getting two newcomers for one game while also trying to justify DK getting no newcomers despite getting two new games. He tried to claim K Rool was unpopular in Japan and when I proved him wrong with a Japanese DLC vote popularity chart from this very site, he still tried to make excuses. You’re only wasting your time trying to reason with him.

            MagcargoMan on July 8 |
          • You’re majorly hypercritical Magcargo if you’re gonna try to act like your flawed arguments were fact. How you’re trying to say Sakurai rushed Cloud in for advertisement when DLC’s true purpose is for fanservice. No matter what the circumstance. Cloud = fanservice, not advertisement.

“No one wanted Corrin” That’s another flawed argument right there. If you even bothered to look at comment sections from videos like these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2eMX_YmxRg people wanted Corrin. Even if lots didn’t ask for him. Smash Bros in general was not asked for. Doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyed severely.

K Rool is a popular choice yeah but there’s many popular choices along side him. Which basically means there was more factors for the final ballot pick. What’s Sakurai supposed to do? Put in all of them? Pfft no way.

Donkey Kong just couldn’t get another rep. Sakurai isn’t going to put in characters just to fill some imaginary quota. It’s bad reasoning for King K Rool if you’re going to use the “Oh! Donkey Kong needs more reps!” argument. There’s better reasoning than that. One of them being he’s the most known villain from Country. The demand has to pull through eventually.

If you would’ve proved me wrong, why didn’t you link to this very page just to have concrete evidence? https://sourcegaming.info/2015/08/22/japantopdlcpart1/ You posted nothing but a picture which is unreliable info which of course anyone with a logical mind wouldn’t believe immediately. I ended up stumbling across the page. It’s ironic.

To be fair, Sakurai considered someone like Geno not once but twice. Sakurai even finds him completely fitting for Smash. Which means a character like King K Rool is very likely the next game. But there was no way he would’ve triumphed over other just as requested if not more requested characters in the ballot.

Choices are starting to get narrow down. It won’t be long. Just stop trying to take away Sakurai’s game away from him just because he didn’t fill a quota.

Etika overracts to everything. He’s about as authentic as Pewdiepie’s screaming while playing a game.

It’s funny you say there’s no need for a quota but at the same time you try to justify a need for a tonne of FE characters because it got new games. Suddenly getting characters matters if it’s your precious FE doesn’t it?

“There’s better reasoning than that. One of them being he’s the most known villain from Country. The demand has to pull through eventually.”
Don’t start pretending you’re open to him being in when you’d made countless excuses for he shouldn’t be in.

“You posted nothing but a picture which is unreliable info which of course anyone with a logical mind wouldn’t believe immediately.”
No, I posted a link from this site :https://sourcegaming.info/2015/02/19/perception-of-smash-dlc-in-japan/ – But I like how you think some article that just had text is more credible than a graph that gathered data. And look at that, a more recent article where K Rool is still the most popular: https://sourcegaming.info/2015/09/13/japantopdlcpt2/

“But there was no way he would’ve triumphed over other just as requested if not more requested characters in the ballot.”
With what proof? We don’t even know who were in the Top 5 votes for the US, Europe and Japan except Bayonetta.

No, choices haven’t narrowed down, not when new games are still being made. Expect the next game to be filled with characters like “Latest FE lord” , “Latest Generation Pokemon” and “Latest MonolithSoft character”.

So? He and a lot of people from the comment section wanted Corrin. Over-reacting or not.

If it was to fill a quota for Fire Emblem Sakurai would’ve shoehorned every lord. So not really.

Because I believed he was a lost cause until I actually saw concrete evidence so yeah. You can’t say what I feel and what I don’t feel. I was heavily against his inclusion but I started to reconsider since he actually has ground to stand on. Since when did you control my emotions?

You posted a graph and a picture of a King K Rool ballot vote. That “graph that decided data” was as good as fake.

Because haven’t you seen the popular picks and options like Banjo, Solid Snake and many others?

It isn’t always like that. Also it is on technical terms narrowing. That’s why the roster wasn’t as obvious and perfect as it was in Brawl.

Peridot Gem on July 8 |
          • @Peridot Gem
Nope, he added several lords that weren’t necessary. Shoe-horned. Corrin Defenders will sure feel silly when he’s dropped in the next game, just like Roy was in Brawl.

Funny how you only admit it was concrete now but back on NE you made excuses when I showed you the same thing. Just trying to damage control since the staff here have made articles proving you wrong? The graph was fake when it came from here? Guess you should go tell the staff what you think of their site then.

“Because haven’t you seen the popular picks and options like Banjo, Solid Snake and many others?”
Butt they can be estimated by the graph. Also, it’s definitely no coincidence that Bayonetta was incredibly low on the graph in both those links and that Sakurai didn’t bring up her position in the Japanese ballot results, so yes I’d say the graph does give a pretty good idea of things.

No, the reason the roster isn’t as perfect because it was more interested in shilling nobodies like Dark Pit and giving us characters we didn’t need like Dr Mario, Roy and Corrin rather than adding glaringly absent characters that are more important and popular. Unlike previous Smash games which tried to have some sort of balance, Smash 4 is more about contemporary characters that show up in the most recent instalment of their series.

            MagcargoMan on July 9 |
          • @Magcargo

It’s highly unlikely but yeah sure keep telling yourself that. Difference is with Roy. Corrin is actually unique and actually brings something different. Sakurai tends to and likes to keep characters who are very unique and give diversity. He has no actual reason to remove Corrin.

That graph looked faker than fake. There was no way I was believing that garbage. Again, your rambling about as if you control people makes you ignorant. Stop acting like you run everything and how everything you say is how it goes/is. Thanks.

Yet that graph still isn’t official. I don’t believe stuff like that which is nothing but pure speculation and is as god as those other “official” ballot results on the internet. I have every right not to believe that. Misinformation has been spread on this website before countless times. Until the real deal shows it’s way into the picture somehow. I’m not believing stuff like that chart. it already feels fake.

Those nobodies still have fans and including extra doesn’t harm and even benefits in a few areas since those characters are still liked. Those missed opportunities proves Smash will never be perfect. Not even a new developer would fix that.

Peridot Gem on July 9 |
          • @Peridot Gem
Highly unlikely? Seems like he hasn’t got much going for him besides being recent. He’s very likely to be shoved aside for the latest lord in the next game, just like how Roy was. Before you bring up Ike staying that’s different because he was in more than one FE game.

Go on then, go tell the staff you think they posted fake evidence solely because it has a character you don’t like at the top.

A new developer might actually be open to criticism instead of acting like he has never done anything wrong regarding favouritism.

            MagcargoMan on July 10 |
          • He won’t. ROB and Game and Watch have NOTHING going on with them yet they stayed didn’t they? Nothing happened with Corrin yet because he’s still new. Nothing is guaranteed.

If so I’m pretty sure Shiek should be replaced by Impa then by that logic or Toon Link replaced by a newer Link that can still be a clone. You don’t call the shots y’know. Smash doesn’t focus on just the new alone. The new lord can easily be ignored. Or just give more to the others so there’s a bit more space for another character. Anything can happen. Just don’t. try. to. say. what’s. going. to. happen. as. if. it’s. fact.

It’s good as speculation since it’s not official. Denial looks terrible on you. Some chart trying to divide the votes by percents is not gonna be completely accurate. Bayonetta obviously did better than how drastically low she is. But for all we know she didn’t because the official ballot results have never been revealed.

Sakurai has been open to criticism this whole entire series. Also how is genuinely believing he did right not listening to criticism? Of course he’s not gonna listen to people like you who’s being brash and rude and saying he doesn’t deserve to run his game no more for frick’s sake. If you decide to be reasonable and fair with your criticism. You would be respected much more. Than just bashing with no respect and thought.

Just because he like the entire company and likely that new dev would do too. They don’t let the fans control everything. Smash is not becoming a slave to do what the fans say and what the fans say alone with no freedom at all. No matter how much you whine and moan dude. If there’s no decision and freewill. It will only be a unoriginal milkfest. Give it up.

Peridot Gem on July 10 |

It’s a bit different when you have a tonne of characters in the same series, with new ones coming in after each game.

I’d happily have Impa replace Sheik as long as she didn’t have her moves. Toon Link has appeared in more Zelda games than Adult Link has, why cut such a significant design of Link.

“Sakurai has been open to criticism this whole entire series.” He always denies it and makes excuses, like with clones and badlly done “Free Desser” metaphor, or how he denies he had favouritism for Kid Icarus or only makes Kirby stages based off Kirby games he made.

The only denial is you denying a good look in popularity. Also, what does it matter if it’s not entirely 100% accurate? You outright said K Rool wasn’t liked in Japan, yet the staff here encountered many Japanese gamers who do like him, which proves you wrong no matter how big the graph is. Plenty of people there want him. Denial looks terrible on you.

And yet Sakurai didn’t even say what position she was in on the US Top 5 and didn’t even mention where she showed up in the Japanese poll at all. It’s more than likely a character ranked higher than her on both the US and Japanese ballot results.

“If you decide to be reasonable and fair with your criticism.”
Since you’ve defended everything he’s done I struggling to imagine what you would consider to be a “fair criticism”.

It’s already a Fire Emblem milkfest so I don’t see what would change except for much more reasonable roster. Sakurai shouldn’t ignore important series in a game celebrating Nintendo just because he doesn’t like them; if he wants to play favourites, he’s not professional enough to decide the roster on his own.

            MagcargoMan on July 10 |
          • @Magcargo It’s no guarantee that it’s gonna happen every game. Unless like Toon Link shows up in more than one game. There’s no actual reason to include another newer lord. Also it doesn’t take away the possibility of the new lord being an alt or just not there at all. Lords got ignored before.

Yeah because answering the blind fan occasions totally means not open to criticism. It’s called justifying the justifiable. Especially blind idiots saying clones “take up slots away from unique characters” which is just a load of bs and all these other downright dumb accusations. That’s not criticizing. Don’t even lie I bet if he would’ve put the Kirby’s yarn stage instead of giving it to Yoshi you would be using that in your arguments. He never say anything involving Kid Icarus on that one article when he denied Kirby and Fire Emblem favoritism.

You’ve forgotten that was back on the site before I even saw that one article. I took a good look, I ate my words and I changed by mind. Your assumptions won’t work here buddy.

So? That’s when realizable comes into play to final the results. What came out of it was something amazing and revolutionary. Bayonetta. You cannot deny she is a great character fitting for Smash. We still got something good out of the ballot. There would’ve been heaping loads of salt if any character won.

Nope. You can judge things without making blind assumptions y’know. Also how is saying he should be replaced fair? That’s nowhere near fair criticism. If he messes up again drastically in your view with another game. That’s something else.

Your view on Smash 4, assumptions and that’s just plain stupid and unfair. He’s not “professional” enough when he’s been doing everything fine for 4 games (3 in your opinion) straight. Stop acting like he did the roster wrong more than once. If he believes King K Rool and Geno are solid choices they’re going to have to make it in eventually. It’s basic fact. It happened with certain characters before.

Peridot Gem on July 10 |
          • @Peridot Gem
Just like there was no reason to have a newer lord as DLC when you already had Awakening characters. Skaurai always puts the most recent FE lord/main character in Smash. The lords that get ignored in Smash are the ones that aren’t the most recent at the time each Smash game is made. Sigurd, Seliph and Leif missed out because Roy was the most recent lord when Melee was made. Hector, Lyn (who at least got an AT), Eliwood, Erika, and Ephraim missed out since Ike was more recent.

Clones are lazy padding no matter what excuse Sakurai makes. He also used them to shill Kid Icarus with his original character Dark Pit (he turned a Smash Bros palette swap into a character; he basically put an OC in Smash) and add an unnecessary addition to the Fe roster with Lucina.

Nope, Woolly World wasn’t even out when he announced the stage, and quite frankly the stage suffers for it with it’s rather generic setting and lack of Woolly World music. There was nothing stopping him from adding both or giving Yoshi a different stage. The “they’d look to similar” excuse is bad for two reasons. Firstly, Sakurai’s already added similar/redundant stages in Smash before: in Melee both of DK’s stages are generic jungle rivers with wooden platforms built over the rapids, there are both Pokemon Stadium stages in Brawl, and Smash 4 has two Mario Kart stages. And secondly, Woolly World and Epic Yarn don’t even look the same. Epic Yarn, despite the name, has most of the levels made out of felt, which looks different from wool. It’s also a 2D game, so it’d look radically different from the Woolly World stage since it’d be flat like Flatzone or Hanenbow. And lastly an Epic Yarn stage could have gimmicks like removing felt patches to uncover new platforms or pulling terrain together to close a gap. So yeah, it’s pretty convenient Sakurai decided that representing a Kirby game he didn’t make was a problem. Also, all this doesn’t explain why the 3DS version doesn’t have a stage based off a new Kirby game when they easily could have had a Triple Deluxe stage since they could reuse assets.

He did mention Kid Icarus favouritism when he answered why there’s so many Kid Icarus enemies in Smash Run, which was because of easily importing models. But then why not add more Pokemon enemies when you can import them from X and Y? Instead we get only five Pokemon enemies. Kid Icarus has more enemies in Smash Run than Mario. It has more enemies than Nintendo’s flagship franchises.

You still try to claim he’s unpopular so I don’t really see what difference it makes.

So you just admitted the ballot doesn’t matter even though Sakurai made a big deal about it regarding Bayonetta? Sakurai made it clear it was due to how high up she was but he didn’t even want to say what position she was in the Top 5 for America.

So you conveniently have no answer and won’t provide an example? Guess you really do think Sakurai is above criticism. And what, I would wait for him to botch another Smash before I should question him. Wait another six years only for disappointment?

            MagcargoMan on July 11 |
          • Awful. Awful point. There needed to be advertisement DLC and Fates was there. If Paper Jam was supposed to be released in February, Paper Mario would’ve in for example. If ANY and I mean ANY other game was there another character would’ve made it in instead. Stop already please. Your logic is making me lose brain cells. No he doesn’t. It was only certain conditions lords made it in than just “NEWEST LORDS MUST MAKE IT IN EVERY GAME”. Marth was one of the most requested Japanese picks for Smash back in Melee. Roy was advertisement and was clearly supposed to be an one-time thing since how quickly he was removed and is not even unique! if he was something would’ve likely been worked out. Ike is a different story since he shows up in more than one game in an major role. Since there was only one rep for Fire Emblem which would be downright unacceptable and unfair since pre-awaking FE deserved 2. It was fine in Melee it should be fine in Brawl. Especially with the other series spreading out too. Every popular series in Brawl had two reps or more.

The only planned character was Robin. Unless you’re saying Awakening doesn’t deserve it’s recognition. Roy got in because it was purely the Smash fanbase completely. Corrin got in because his game was around the block and just in time for advertisement. We can just say that is dumb luck for those two.

It doesn’t matter. That “padding” is a good thing since those clones are still requested. Clones may be “lazily made” BUT THAT’S THE POINT. The roster wouldn’t be nearly as big and there wouldn’t be enough time if characters didn’t take aspects from each other and are completely 100% original. Especially since some don’t fight. It would be ridiculously impossible to make an original moveset for Doctor Mario since he’s still Mario. Same thing for Luigi back then when he was a clone because he was “Green Mario” in those days. He had to improvise and make up moves which Mario already has except for Green Missile. No he did not put a “OC” in Smash. Uprising is a canon game is apart of the Kid Icarus series and Dark Pit debuted in that game. He’s a canon character. Not some OC Sakurai made up for Smash. Do you realize what you’re saying? You’re trying to say you’re doing fair criticism yet you don’t see nor respect why clones are in the game in the first place. Sakurai’s not getting rid of characters fans love just because YOU don’t like them. That is nowhere near fair. Being fair is acknowledging all sides of one thing. You’re not doing that. -__-

Dude, if he couldn’t put it in. Then it was P R E T T Y obvious there wasn’t enough time to make both stage layouts and give their own unique gimmicks at once. Also the fact that he probably thinks they’re too similar and fans would whine about it being a waste since this community likes to complain about anything they get their hands on. He likely wants variety. “In Melee:” Stop right there. That was MELEE. The game that was so terribly rushed it accidentally created a competitive scene when that was so unintentional it’s funny. Every stage in the separate versions is definitely different from one another drastically. Plus didn’t triple deluxe get it’s recognition by the ultra sword being Kirby’s final smash? That’s pretty fair and you know it. Like If Tropical Freeze got some recognition by Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong getting a new final smash. Would you really complain? Be honest. You won’t because current DK representation no matter what it is, is great right?

So? He never outright denied it like with Fire Emblem and Kirby. All he said was the enemies from Uprising were easier to get in. He was not using that to defend himself from accusations like that one article. He was just saying why Kid Icarus has the most enemies. He didn’t say anything about having no bias toward it and you should know. Unlike with Kid Icarus, Pokemon really doesn’t have “enemy material Pokemon”. They already had to improvise and throw in a few ghost types. Unless you’re saying they should throw in random Pokemon for you to hit which is kinda messed up since Pokemon’s purpose is to have Pokemon to capture and have Pokemon battle other Pokemon. That’s why Pokemon doesn’t have a lot of enemies.

Again, that was back on the site when I DIDN’T see the article. Do you know how to read? I made assumptions sure of myself. Saw the proof backing him up. Ate my words. Changed my mind and respected him as a solid choice. Are you saying people are not allowed to change minds and opinions?

Oh it does matter. It helps everyone know the world’s standing on certain characters. The top popular choices have increased chances of being in the possible next game. And of course, we get a new character. There was like 19 or so newcomers in Sm4sh not counting DLC right? (22 with DLC) Well the number of newcomers increases every Smash game from 14 to 18 to 22. So let’s say there’s 26 newcomers next game. There’s slots given away to Zelda, Mario and Pokemon. That’s 23-18 spots left depending on certain situations like another series getting another rep. Which means King K Rool has a very big chance.

If you want an example so badly. Go look at videos involving Dark Pit and Smash. There’ll be people saying that he was a “waste of character slot” and that it should go to a completely unique character. Sakurai isn’t above criticism. But he’s above blind and unfair criticism like any other game developer. Like how you’re saying he should be replaced over something so minor when looking at the whole picture it’s disgusting. Yes he made questionable decisions and you have a right to call out to that but saying he should be replaced when he’s been doing a fine job is taking it to far and you basically lose the edge of your criticism making it worthless and not worth the effort of trying to level with that criticism since it’s just bashing. Criticism, like I said is understanding both sides of the problem and inputting your opinion. You’re just saying your side and your perspective without acknowledging anything else. Like how you’re trying to say Clones should be removed and are lazy when they have their good sides that you’ve been ignoring. You’re free to have an opinion but if you’re aiming for fair criticism you HAVE to look at and respect both sides.

Peridot Gem on July 11 |
          • “A major thing” you mean “Why does one country have that game & not us?”

Sakurai listens to the fans, yeah, that’s why K. Rool’s not in the game but characters such as Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, & Greninja are. That’s why the Subspace Emissary was a Kirby sausage-fest. That’s why Metaknight & Bayo are considered “illegal”. Mega Man’s in the game because Nintendo asked Capcom. Sakurai’s not in charge of business relations. Fire Emblem _is_ a milkfest, as every game is apparently being heavily promoted by Sakurai while other games that have released during Smash Bros’ development has gone unnoticed.

I never said Final Fantasy would get more than one character, but it would have been stupid to pick a character that isn’t Cloud. How is Fire Emblem different from Final Fantasy? With a new game comes a new cast of characters. If Fire Emblem is popular than Donkey Kong must be super-popular, because it sold more copies.

The custom moves are flawed, Mega Man has a variety of moves that can easily be skinned swapped with the animation the same. Palutena got it because well, she’s a goddess. They were likely given when Sakurai had the thought of giving everyone original moves but only got Palutena, Miis and Mega Man done since it would’ve been really painful to make up different moves entirely.

Because Mega Man has several obtainable abilities in his games that all use similar animations. Being a “goddess” should actually be a reason NOT to include her, but hey, Sakurai makes the rules up as he goes along. So let me get this straight, Sakurai wasn’t able to finish all the unique special moves, but he kept Palutena’s in, while he wasn’t able to put Ince Climbers in the 3DS version, oh but he left them out of the Wii-U version. How is that fair? I bet if Palutena wasn’t possible in the 3DS version, she’s remain in the Wii-U version. #DoubleStanburgers

A more distinct nose, spikier hair, almond eyes. Of which Next Level’s version doesn’t have.

Don’t all the characters have that hi-def look? Pac-Man they used the 90s look because that’s what he’s mostly known for. If they decided to give Sheriff an actual appearance other than his yellow body, then he wouldn’t be Sheriff. Most of the characters never look as good in their own games up until Smash Bros. When was Fire Emblem ever neglected? The still keep making games no matter how poorly they used to sell.

Donkey Kong has been around since the arcades. What is it with you and “Fates” being in the “best position”? Did Sakurai have to add a character purely for advertisement? No.

If you’re talking about Fire Emblem we DO have the series and in fact it’s popular so.

Nintendo didn’t ask Capcom anything until Sakurai made the choice of adding him in the first place. If Sakurai didn’t think for the fans Sonic and Solid Snake wouldn’t of been in Brawl and would’ve stayed an Nintendo only game. Contradicting much? Those are meant to be surprise choices which the fans love and are ok with now stop acting like it’s been nothing but surprise joke choices and Pacman & such don’t exist. Bayonetta was nerfed wasn’t she? The fans demanded for that and it happened. Stop grasping for straws. “Was a Kirby sausage-fest” Please tell me you’re joking. Everyone played a role in there than just Kirby characters. Excuses. No game is being heavily promoted. By that logic Pokemon, Punch Out, Mario, Bayonetta, Sonic, Pikmin, Kirby etc is being promoted since Sakurai’s using things off their recent games.

Fire Emblem is different from Final Fantasy in many things. one of them being it’s a pure first party classic that’s stuck with Nintendo since famicom. What an asspull of an argument. Seriously? Fire Emblem to Final Fantasy? Absolutely horrible. Terrible. 0/10. Work on your arguments. That was just bad.

Are you serious? That would be a reason TO include her since she can bring something new. By your logic let’s remove Ganondorf since he’s the living embodiment of pure power and only the master sword can kill him. Bowser too! Since he’s too big in most games and that would be overpowered. Let’s not forget about Rosalina since she stopped an entire black hole. While we’re at it let’s throw out Mewtwo and Olimar! Mewtwo’s the ultimate Pokemon. Olimar with 100 pikmin???? OVERPOWERED. Dude, it’s called “innovating”. That’s why super powerful characters like those can work in Smash. It’s the same case for Palutena. “OH SINCE SHE’S A GODDESS WITH TOTALLY NO WAY TO WORK AROUND HURR DURR LET’S NOT INCLUDE HER” That proves how unoriginal and uncreative the Smash fanbase is.

Nope if Palutena like the Ice Climbers couldn’t work in the 3ds version no matter how much he tried to change things like with the Ice Climbers which is 8 player smash with them together then he would have no choice but to not include her. He’s a man of his word. He would likely find something to replace her anyways or do a different character. You’re saying he should treat the 3ds users like crap and go back on his word and make Wii U exclusive characters!? #DoubleStanburgers Exposed! You’re nothing but a hypocrite. Way to lose all your credibility.

So? He still looks ridiculously similar! He even has the same skin color and everything. Stop grasping please.

You’ve forgotten that every single design is basically the same from a certain game. Since Sheriff only that one game they kept the design like that. But you’re right Sheriff wouldn’t look good in an HD design since there’s not much to work off. Like how Mac’s classic design in Brawl got updated to HD same thing for Pit. Nintendo of America ignored Fire Emblem back when the supports were less focused on. When it finally got localized. Still some Fire Emblem games got ignored. It was going to die! Awakening was the planned last game. It was as if they were going to die with or without America, but then everyone from both Japan and America ate up Awakening and enjoyed it. That was when FE was successfully revived. It wasn’t because of Smash. http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/25/fire-emblem-awakening-was-almost-the-last-game-in-the-series/

So what if DK was in the arcades? DK’s newest game Tropical Freeze was released before Sm4sh even came out. Fates was in the best spot since Sakurai wanted to pick an UPCOMING game to advertise that was near release. Not a game that’s sitting right next to the direct a day after on the same month like Paper Jam. Yes he did, he actually had organized plans for the DLC. You may not like the character but that advertisement character is still advertisement.

Peridot Gem on July 12 |
          • There is no NEED for advertising. Literally none. It’s some stupid justification you’ve made to excuse FE being shilled harder than it already was. There was no need for Corrin, no need for Roy, and no need for Lucina. Also whats with your delusional ranting? I never said that Marth and Ike shouldn’t be in Smash or that FE should only have one rep. And your excuses don’t change the fact that Smash always gets the latest lord as a newcomer in each game. I don’t care about your “dumb luck” excuses for Roy and Corrin; they didn’t need to be added and no one was forcing him too. Stop acting like he had to.

The roster being bigger doesn’t matter if it’s just lazy padding and recycled movesets. Quality > Quantity. Dr Mario shouldn’t even be playable, just asn alt costume for Mario. And no, Dark Pit is practically an OC, since he went and took Pit’s fallen angel palette in Brawl and made it a character.

Excuses, it’s never stopped him from adding similar stages in the same game before, he just conveniently decided it. Also, Woolly World wasn’t even out yet, so Epic Yarn should have taken priority. The Ultra Sword is from Return to Dream Land, only Triple Deluxe content is a couple of songs. Plus a Final Smash is not a stage, and it doesn’t even work the same it does in Return to Dream Land; he just made it a move like Triforce Slash and Great Aether.

Nice excuse, Pokemon has plenty of enemy material. Zubat as an annoying, small flying enemy that can stun with Supersonic or latch on and drain health with Leech Life, Scyther attacking with it’s large blade arms, Heracross charging at players and flinging them with its horn, Hitmontop trapping opponents with a spinning attack, Stunfisk flopping around and zapping people who touch it, or Aegislash using it’s sword body to attack or block with its shield. There’s tonnes. No need to shoehorn a tonne of KI enemies, four or five would have been plenty for such a small series. Also I like how it’s okay to beat up playable Pokemon but Pokemon that are actively trying to harm you for no reason in Smash Run don’t deserve it. Ridiculous.

But you don’t respect him, you still make excuses for why he’s not worthwhile.

Yeah, like how he gave three slots to Fire Emblem newcomers. Really guaranteed slots for most series right there. Also there’s a point where the roster just can’t get bigger without too many cuts so it doesn’t necessarily mean the next game will have a larger amount of newcomers.

So you define criticism as not actually criticising anything and just being neutral about everything? Okay.

Yeah there was, there was advertisement part of the DLC. You’re just trying to say it’s not needed because it’s Corrin. Roy wasn’t needed but since Melee DLC was needed and literally every other character was just like Roy. Pichu and Young Link are just like him. Roy only got in because of some dumb trend. Lucina is an extra clone, and Smash loves clones. You’re rambling and hatred towards clones ain’t getting them removed. DLC wasn’t needed either. Hell, Smash wasn’t needed. Your logic is as petty as your whining. Trying to shame him for being fair about everything and not throwing potential under the bus just because the character is from a certain series. Smfh. Roy was the most requested returnee from Melee. The fans wanted em they got him. Just because you don’t like him because he’s from FE don’t mean shit. Get it through your thick skull: POTENTIAL. IS. NOT. BEING. IGNORED. JUST. BECAUSE. OF. AN. SERIES.

Your unfair opinion about clones which literally harms nothing and is the equivalent of an extra similar drink to a buffet is worthless. Don’t like clones? Too bad. They’re not going anywhere.

Being like Great Aether is the most convenient. It’s impossible for everything to be 100% original. Deal with it. Not even a new developer is going to make everything perfect either. So your wet dreams about an developer turning Smash into an unoriginal slave is never happening. EVER.

It’s downright atrocious how you’re trying to force something as insignificant as enemies for an exclusive mode to be reliant on how series’ places. Stop acting like everything has to be in order of popularity. Just because Pokemon doesn’t have the second most enemies doesn’t mean it’s the end the world. It’s not like everyone else got 10 enemies and Mario and Pokemon only got 2.

You and what proof? You’re running off blind assumptions because of what I said before I read the article. Ridiculous. You don’t run everyone’s emotions and what they do. Don’t act like you’re in that position. You’re not some divine being that can decide what anyone truly thinks and what should happen in the future.

It will like every other Smash. None of your conspiracy theories and opinions in general will never change anything.

Criticism is being fair and not being an downright dick like you are. THANK GOD you’re not getting your hands anywhere near the Smash series. Holy shit. You’re saying Kid Icarus doesn’t deserve any sort of spotlight and doesn’t deserve to shine in anything. Smash shines on everything. Each shine in their own separate areas.

Smash is not your generic Nintendo-All Star game. It’s about purely it’s history and small forgotten stuff are going to get lots of love. Smash is not basing it off of sales nor how popular the franchise. It’s about what an franchise can bring. Don’t like how the way it’s structured? Welcome to the real world.

No, there’s no need to add advertisements. They’re cynical marketing tactics and cease to be relevant by the Smash. And then they’ll get cut in the next game (rightfully). And then fans of the character will whine to have them back and we get them as DLC even though they are even more irrelevant now. He didn’t NEED to have Melee DLC, he wanted to. And no matter what excuse you make, Mewtwo already counts.

“DLC wasn’t needed either. Hell, Smash wasn’t needed. Your logic is as petty as your whining.”
That’s hilarious coming from someone who just used the slippery-slope fallacy just before that last sentence there.

Don’t care about your Roy excuses. You’re like a broken record. He didn’t have to had Roy; there was no need to add Roy. Also what potential? Fire Marth? Lol.

No, hating lazy copy-paste filler is entirely fair. It adds nothing of value but overrep series and clog the roster. Not really, because an extra drink wouldn’t have been made from the leftover drops of liquid sitting in the bottom of the glass from the first drink.

Keep excusing laziness. No good reason for why Ultra Sword had to be yet another thousand sword slashes thing. Also I like how you said Smash would become an unoriginal slave for wanting original moves. Hilariously self-unaware, you are.

It’s downright atrocious the lengths you go to defend Sakurai’s favouritism for Uprising and the most ridiculous excuses you push to justify bigger and more relevant series getting less. Kid Icarus has NINETEEN enemies and whatever ludicrous reaching you make to justify it doesn’t change anything.

By which you mean “Praise Sakurai for everything and never say a single bad thing about his game ever!”. It’s sad you’re glad that someone who would represent series fairly based on the actual sizes of each franchise wouldn’t be in charge. Thank goodness you’re not in charge; I don’t think anyone except you would tolerate “Super Fire Emblem with a few other Nintendo characters Bros.”.

And nice strawman. You really can’t comprehend the idea that not giving Kid Icarus way more than it deserves isn’t giving it nothing.

“It’s about what an franchise can bring.”
And clearly Marth Clones and Dark Pit add so much to the experience. Oh wait they don’t. All this time you use excuses to justifying over-representing series but then use the most idiotic double-think to excuse other series getting next to nothing. Don’t like how people call you out on your nonsense? Deal with it.

So you’re basically saying make a big deal over insignificant stuff and DLC advertisement is worthless because Corrin ended up on top and not any other character? Stay arrogant.

Yeah “slippery slope” when no one truly didn’t ask for the Smash series.

It was either that or another Link or Pichu.

You ruined the comparison. A clone is the equivalent of the exact same drink you get at a meal. The majority is gonna be fine with it.

Strawman. You can’t get nothing but original moves all the time. Smash is making use of it’s limited resources since more than half of the Nintendo characters don’t have movesets that’s there to paste into the game. Sakurai had to improvise with the movesets. Of course it wouldn’t be 100% fucking original. A new developer ain’t gonna make everyone original either. But hey go on don’t let me stop you from living in your precious dreamland.

Your point? That mode is rarely even played or touched upon anymore. It’s 3ds exclusive. So of course that 19 can be copy pasted in. It’s his pet project btw which he never denied of not having bias to. Kid Icarus Uprising did bring lots of creative things that was Smash material like items. Which are insignificant toward series representation. That would be dumb to not make use of it.

            Nice joke.

Your view is basically giving it nothing.

Yep. They’re situational extra from recent games. There is no relevant DK character that shares DK’s body size to be an alt. You’e just making up excuses because you don’t want to admit that there is no series “over represented” unless it’s bigger than Mario. FE and KI aren’t random new titles. They’re classics which play a part in history. Don’t like how thing are done? Deal with it. You’re whining has no place and isn’t gonna do anything but make you look like a sad sob crying over King K Rool. Learn your place. You’re not special. Your bitching isn’t automatically gonna be noticed and he’s gonna step down over some crybaby. Glad Sakurai isn’t a push over for the fans like how you want him to be.

“A clone is the equivalent of the exact same drink you get at a meal.”
Nope, because the drink won’t be made from the remains of the first drink.

“Paragraph acting like clones need to added in the first place”
            Wrong as always.

“That mode is rarely even played or touched upon anymore. It’s 3ds exclusive. So of course that 19 can be copy pasted in.”

Nice damage control, if they a from a series they represent it.

“Yep. They’re situational extra from recent games.”
Yep. They’re unnecessary padding to overrep series.

Clones take away from nothing and your baseless points that consists of an opinion is pointless. But keep pretending that the big majority of people don’t like clones #Doublestandburgers

Stop pretending the enemies are actually significant. It makes you look desperate. Anything other than characters and stages are all over the place. Very baseless. Yes the hell I am going to defend what he’s wrongly accused of with no evidence or the evidence lost in translation. You’re not going to stop me and your failures of attempts to shame me for it fall flat. Especially how you’re trying to say a new developer is going to be a flawless being.

Clones aren’t doing anything, they have no reason to go. The ballot is possibly going to determine character choice in the possible next game. So you’re likely to get your precious King K Rool that you’ve been crying over so much.

Your accusation that the 4 game series is getting stale is as baseless as your arguments in general. There is a lot of untapped potential Sakurai can choose from. You’re just making excuses to get rid of him.

I have proof but you always deny it. But then again no amount of proof would persuade someone who thinks it’s fair for a minor series with three games to get two newcomers while series that have been around since the NES and got multiple new games got none.

Clones add nothing of value. Keep pretending they do.

Stop pretending they don’t count as representation. It makes you look desperate to deny how there’s KI stuff EVERYWHERE in Smash 4. “Low priority and random”? Lol. Keep pretending KI getting more enemies than Pokemon, Zelda and even Mario is just a coincidence.

Yes because Mewtwo being thrown in for money totally is an legit point with obvious proof! Ridiculous. Smash Bros is about representing history. It doesn’t matter how small the series. It should and still deserves to get love as if it’s an major IP. That’s one of the things that makes Smash stand out. They give their neglected IPs treatment and lots of love. For the thousandth time, it’s not on Kid Icarus that DK ended up in a bad spot. Nothing should be held-back or shoehorned because a major series has it’s flaws.

Clones don’t remove anything of value either, and you’re wrong since it expands the roster and those characters prove to have fans. Stop pretending the clones aren’t loved at all nor have fans. Pathetic! Your black and white view of everything is why no one can have nice things. Just because the clones aren’t original 100% doesn’t mean they should be thrown away.

Smash Bros is it’s own thing that slightly uses elements of a crossover. Even having it’s own enemies, stages, items and content in general. Even putting in things characters don’t have. Basically alternating them for this game which OBVIOUSLY means it’s not placing everything in your black and white view. You trying to shame it for using inspiration off another game that the developer made which isn’t gonna do nor affect anything is illogical and pathetic. Smash Bros isn’t just some generic crossover. It went out of it’s way to be more than that with the right proof. That is on you then if you decide to try to actually use it toward representation. You’re just trying to make the game lifeless in your own black and white view huh? Everything ALWAYS must be in your specific order? Kid Icarus can’t have ANY glory at all can it?

The day you’re actually right on this point is the day hell freezes over.

Your point is void since they still got clones. FE and KI got clones in a similar fashion. Nice excuses though to try to excuse the clones they got.

Saying clones can’t be in the game when they don’t take away from anything and even having people supporting them all the way proof and all is disgusting. It points that everything you say is only your opinion and what you believe on the matter. Get your head out of your ass and stop having such a black and white view on Smash Brothers. So it’s just a coincidence that the most requested cut character that Sakurai is well-aware of the demand for didn’t make it in the core game (even though he got more publicity in the main games due to X and Y) yet gets to be paid DLC ? How convenient. DK is not in a bad spot, it got a revival with two significant releases. Stop being dense. No other series of KI’s size gets pushed this hard.

They remove professionalism and quality, and make the game grindier since it’s more characters you have to slog through Classic and All-Star with, and any mode where there’s a challenge for beating it with every character. Clones should be thrown away and defenders of laziness should not be catered too.

Keep denying KI wasn’t shilled hard.

Well hell must have constant freeze-overs since you have yet to prove me wrong that you have even given an example of actually criticising Sakurai.

Nope, point not void. They weren’t given clones to be overreped. KI and FE had enough reps before the clones were added.

No, he’s a hypocrite. “This guy can’t be in because he’s too similar, but I’m fine with adding a clone!” Lucina should have been Marth’s alt and nobody would have cared. Same with Dark Pit. Look at the Koopaling’s fanbase: their characters are just alts and they’re very happy with what they got.

You’re delusional if you think not overrepping KI means not adding anything at all. For summon who blabs on about a “black and white view” you sure have one.

Where’s the proof then? There is none because it’s illogical. If you knew anything about developing a game which you don’t. Lots of plans don’t happen to make it into the final cut. So yes. Mewtwo is not held back for money. Plus even if he was which he clearly isn’t. How is that wrong when it costed a few bucks for one original character that the fans downright adore. Especially since he was free on certain terms on his first release. This is ridiclous. Mewtwo being DLC is nowhere near in the wrong stop trying to find ways to shill more blame on the man. DK is in a bad spot character wise. Please make up excuses and try to say he’s not. It’ll make your points even more pathetically illogical.

Oh look what we have here. More senseless babbling from what you believe. Clones are not professional and Smash is not even supposed to be something “professional”. If it was it would’ve made it much more serious and took a Brawl direction in terms of development. It’s not even an official crossover since it’s nothing but toys, mirror images hinted by Sakurai and confirmed by Nintendo. If Smash was supposed to be an serious “link between worlds” lots of things wouldn’t of happened. Clones have fans and demand and you cannot change that. Who are you to try to take away what lots of fans like and doesn’t do anything? That lacks logic completely.

Void. Situational extra. Nothing else. That’s all there is with clones. They’re not there to “shill” anything with franchises. Your pathetic “nuh uh!!! Over repped!!!” attempts lacks the logic that holds points together. You’re doing the exact same thing how I’m accused of acting. Star Fox was a similar case in Brawl. Mario in 64. Melee and 64 with Pokemon. Zelda in Melee and Brawl. It is situational. It’s nowhere near consistent. If it was Donkey Kong would’ve got Dixie. Characters are just chosen whatever and whenever since clones don’t take much work.

So I was right. You people are just misinformed like always coming to blind conclusions off of first sight. This is why I defend. I do not think Sakurai as a flawless being I even said so myself that he has flaws. it’s because most of the “criticism” I see is illogical, clouded and can be easily countered. This Chrom point I see is usually from aggravated fans or people just mad about Lucina. Lucina is nothing but pure situational extra. She has nothing to do with the Chrom situation. Who was supposed to be his OWN entire character even planned to be put in over Robin but played too much like Ike and Marth. If he didn’t play like those two. Sakurai would’ve excused him even though he’s an generic anime blue haired swordsman which horribly represents FE. Your Koopalings point lacks ground since the fans would’ve been just as happy if not more if they were a clone extra character. Lucina and Dark Pit have lots of fans who are more happy about their inclusion as an extra character than a costume. Even slightly preferring that character over the original real deal. I leave actual criticism alone that’s fair and isn’t letting their emotions cloud their judgement. You saying Sakurai should be replaced for not being perfect is ridiclous. Patience will get you far. You wallowing in your own tears over situational stuff is illogical. Smash 4 is still a good game none the less, grow up and let the past be the past. Do not pretend Sakurai isn’t gonna keep striving for improvement if he stays. He always has. You saying the series needs new blood when it’s barely even been around is horrible.

It’s illogical. I think the majority of businessmen would disagree with you. People will pay for something if they want it badly, and of all the characters that didn’t make it into Brawl, Mewtwo was the one people missed the most. It’s wrong because such an important Pokemon and highly-demanded veteran shouldn’t be held behind a paywall. He should have been in the base game instead of the ever irrelevant Jigglypuff. It’s not in a bad spot, you’re just so biased against the series you can’t even accept that there’s two major candidates for it.

You clearly don’t know what professional means. It doesn’t mean all serious and edgy. It means quality craftsmanship and well-executed design.

            “Situational”. Sure thing buddy.

Nope, you have still yet to prove me wrong that you’ll accept any criticism of Sakurai.

“Who was supposed to be his OWN entire character even planned to be put in over Robin but played too much like Ike and Marth. If he didn’t play like those two. Sakurai would’ve excused him even though he’s an generic anime blue haired swordsman which horribly represents FE.”
So instead he adds another generic anime blue-haired sword lord, but instead of playing too similar, it’s an outright clone. Brilliant.

My point is right. Fans were happy with The Koopalings even though they were just alts. Lucina and Dark Pit just being alts would have made their fans happy without overrepping with playable characters for their series. If he strived for improvement he wouldn’t have indulged in so much favouritism and bias this time around.

          • Just face the facts dude. Smash 4 isn’t perfect. Sakurai is going to improve in the future. It’s inevitable. Just let it go and forget about this. I’m going to try to as well. There’s no point arguing about this anymore since it’s an agree to disagree situation.

And you can’t prove that he wasn’t, but keep believing the most wanted cut veteran being charged as DLC was purely coincidental. You proven yourself biased against DK through your doubl-stadards and weak excuses. You don’t knwo what prime means. Stopping saying the arcade is his prime because you are objectively wrong.

Keep pretending it’s purely a coincidence that a series Sakurai loves and another that Sakurai made the latest game for got clones after both already got the necessary newcomer and didn’t need another.

You literally haven’t provided a single example of what a “legit” criticism of Sakurai’s decisions would be. If he acknowledged he ever did any wrong then he would’t make up bad excuses for poor decisions like he did with this game.

You haven’t countered anything. In fact more people would be made if they were clones instead of alts because then there’d be FOURTEEN playable Mario reps and seven clones of one character. Alph fans aren’t pleased because his alt wasn’t done properly. He doesn’t even have his voice. It didn’t have the same effort the Koopalings had put into them. There is no situational. He didn’t have to add Dark Pit or Lucina, he wanted to.

No, Lucina is just as generic as Chrom. Being female doesn’t change that.

If he was improving in the future than this would have been better than the last game not worse.

It’s downright illogical to say Mewtwo was held back for money. Every single game had to get plans cut out.

Clones are situational and do not touch anything. There’s nothing else to say on the matter.

And thus ladies and gentlemen. It’s confirmed. Magcargo does nothing but grasp for straws desperately in arguments. Lots and lots of stuff got updated in Smash 4. You’re just mad over FE and clones. So much in fact, you’re trying to say he made no progress with improvement and making more excuses to toss him. Smash Bros was never made with the thought of being professional. It was thrown together and continued from there to make fans happy.

If you think it’s illogical then you’d never understand basic business.

You have nothing else to say on the matter because you know I’m right. You didn’t even deny the Lucina being generic thing.

And as we already knew from the beginning, you still can’t provide me with an example with what a fair criticism of Sakurai’s work would be. He didn’t improve, he took steps back. Dropped Adventure Mode entirely (not even a Melee style one), replaced Target Test for some awful Angry Birds-style thing, added ultra-lazy Melee-style clones when Brawl at least made clones semis instead, added a tonne of bias for series he liked/worked on when in the previous game the only bias for series he worked on was in Subspace, tonnes of recycled stages used as padding since they couldn’t give a new stage to most series in both versions, Ice Climbers and transformations being cut because of the 3DS version, etc.

            MagcargoMan on August 5 |
          • Then you clearly don’t know anything about Smash Brothers which explains a lot if you’re trying to say that. Lots have been scrapped. Mewtwo is no exception. Just because they decided to bring back the most loved veteran doesn’t mean it’s for money. If DLC was for the money it would’ve lasted much longer.

It’s rather the opposite, that is all there is with clones. That’s it. Not because you’re right out of all people. Lucina has more character and beings more variety than Chrom ever could. I don’t need to btw. Since I’ve been defending her for the entire clones argument.

What even is your point. He went in an effort to change stuff and even bring a handheld Smash for the first time which was a success with sales. Just because the game has flaws and some of the stuff changed wasn’t successful doesn’t mean he doesn’t strive for improvement. You trying to say Sakurai doesn’t try to improve the series when he clearly does. Every game better than the last, it makes you look idiotic.

Except she doesn’t have more personality. She’s just as generic with a generic heroic personality. And she didn’t add any variety because she’s a clone.

I like how you asked what is my point, as if you couldn’t comprehend all the steps back I just mentioned that prove your “improvement” nonsense wrong.

She doesn’t bring variety you say? List me a fully female Fire Emblem character that’s in Smash. Oh wait you can’t because Lucina is the first FE female and first swordswoman. That does in fact give variety. Robin doesn’t count since Robin is an avatar and more or a “pick your own gender” character. Even then male Robin was the default.

I asked that because your point makes zero sense. Sm4sh improved and fixed Brawl’s problems. Just because he failed on a few of the new stuff which can be improved. That does not mean he doesn’t strive for improvement. Complete and utter nonsense. Sm4sh is better than both Brawl and Melee. Which game after game it’s flaws get worked on and improved off of them. Sakurai does indeed strive for improvement.

Wow, she’s a girl. Good thing that has an effect on her moveset… oh wait. What are you, an SJW? Keep making excuses for a bland addition.

Brawl had much less roster bias and overrepresentation, Smash 4 has plenty. Brawl had Target Test and Adventure Mode, Smash 4 dropped both completely, Brawl only added semi-clones, Smash 4 added full clones.

            MagcargoMan on August 6 |
          • Her character does have a different effect. She’s a tipper less Marth. It doesn’t matter how much exuses you try to make, there was no swordswoman. Lucina does in fact bring more variety than Chrom ever could.

Smash 4’s roster is more alive, more balanced, online mode was fixed, it’s much faster, lots of new stuff got added. The only relevant thing Brawl has over Smash 4 is some story mode. But Smash 4 tops Brawl with everything else. Everyone finds Smash 4 better than Brawl. Your pathetic strawmen lacks logic. Sakurai did not drop the target mode. He attempted something new to make something better. Yeah because three full clones out of fifty eight characters totally means something you stupidly idiotic moron. -_- Are you kidding me. Sakurai strives to improve always and you don’t have anything at all that proves otherwise. Smash 4 sure isn’t perfect but it’s a ton better than that mess Brawl.

Literally Marth but without the rewarding players for spacing. Wow such variety. Keep pretending a clone is more unique than a normal character.

More alive? Yeah, and the clones contributed zilch to that. Actual fresh and unique newcomers like Villager, Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr did that not Noob Marth and Edgy Pit. Nope, Brawl has better target test, better Classic mode (Wii u’s is Classic in name only), better stage builder (there is lot of unique features dropped in Smash 4’s stage builder), and better roster choices/distribution. Only things better is larger roster, better graphics, more music, being faster and removing tripping. Smash 4 suffered from being split into to games.

There is no female sword wielder in Smash. She brings much more variety than Chrom. It’s basic fact.

Everyone looks and animates better than their Brawl counterparts. Diddy for example was stiff and awkward back in Brawl. He’s much better now. So, yes they are much more alive. It doesn’t mater how much excuses you make. Smash 4 is much better than Brawl and improved upon it’s flaws. The game may have it’s flaws but it’s better than Brawl. Sakurai still strives for improvement. You constantly failed to try to prove it wrong. It didn’t suffer from splitting it into two versions. Smash 4 in total was successful because of that. The game was actually able to sell. It may have its costs but it’s worth it since the game actually sold, without the 3ds. Wii U version would’ve sold worse than 64. Also it provides something new all together since this is first time a handheld Smash exists.

Peridot Gem on August 7 |
          • @Peridot Gem
Irrelevant. It adds no meaningful addition to the gameplay. Lucina being a girl doesn’t change the fact that she’s yet another blue-haired sword lord.

No, Smash suffered from being split in two, and the fact that we lost characters, transformations, had a tonne of old stages as filler and had modes neutered (Smash Run is supposed to have the other fighters in the maze but they only allow up on the touch screen map, also was meant to have two player co-op) explicitly because of it is objective proof. Smash being available on 3DS was the final nail in the coffin for the Wii U. Smash is a system seller; people will buy a console for Smash Bros. Also that’s hilariously wrong that you actually think it would sell less than the first game.

            MagcargoMan on August 7 |
          • @Magcargo

Then that’s void since by your logic. Chrom brings nothing new even as an character with an original moveset. Lucina’s at least a clone so of course she wouldn’t bring anything new. Oh wait, she did bring more diversity since she’s a swordswoman. Lucina isn’t the most interesting out of all characters. But Chrom is 5x more bland than her. If compared by full potential side by side. Lucina brings more. Chrom is bland in all areas. It would’ve left a bad taste in tons of people’s mouth to see 3 generic blue haired male swordsmen side by side. Btw with or without Chrom, Lucina would’ve been there still. So it does not matter. You cannot trade characters. Especially with original characters over clones. It’s impossible and has been proven to be impossible.

Yep. If the console’s actually decent then it will be bought. There is no what ifs. Wii sold well because of the casual audience. Brawl sold great only because the system did great. Sm4sh would’ve bombed on the Wii U and you know it. No one other than the same people who bought the Wii U. Would spend so much for a bad console just for Smash. You’re being dense if you think they would. The game had to get limited but it gave it great sales and made Smash 4 a success. This isn’t the N64 days. Expectations have risen tremendously. Wii U utterly failed to reach them. Smash wouldn’t of saved it. Stop being arrogant. Completely illogical to say that Smash 4: A Wii U exclusive would save the U. Nintendo screwed up on it. One game will never save a failed system.

Lucina is bland in all areas, just like her father. Being a girl doesn’t change that, and if you think otherwise you’re likely an SJW. Also misreading as usual. I don’t want Chrom. Neither Chrom nor Lucina should have been in. Robin was sufficient. Play as female Robin or female Corrin if you want to play as a swordswoman. Don’t make some excuse about how the male one is the main one in Smash. It doesn’t matter, you can still play as a female sword user. Not to mention in the actual FE games they’re from they don’t have a canon sex so whether they use one over the other in Smash more is irrelevant.

“Sm4sh would’ve bombed on the Wii U and you know it.” Wrong. Splatoon is a new IP and everyone that bought it wouldn’t have a previous game to judge whether they’d like it or not, and it has sold over four million copies, meaning about a third of Wii U owners bought it. Mario Kart 8 has sold over seven million copies and 3D World has sold five million. Games like those sold very well and yet you think something as huge as Smash would bomb. Hilarious.

It doesn’t matter. You’re trying to say Chrom would bring more variety than Lucina which is not true and why this Lucy argument is a thing. Which is beyond inaccurate. Lucina brings more variety than Chrom. Even when he had an original moveset he played exactly like Marth and Ike. Chrom is tasteless. Lucina is only a clone not even brought to her full potential and she still brought more variety than Chrom. There isn’t supposed to be taste with Lucina in Smash since she’s an extra clone that got in because of an extra few hours. These two are different cases entirety. Let it go. There is no actual gender for Robin and Corrin you fool. They are customizable with genders which is something different completely. It does not count. You cannot make up excuses that say otherwise. They are avatars. Something new in Smash. They’re neither a boy nor a girl. They are both. Since they’re customizable. I’m talking about a character who is default a girl and cannot be changed like Peach.

Stop with the pathetic lies. Nintendo screwed up on the console. Smash is not going to save it. That’s baseless and illogical. It still doesn’t matter since 3ds would’ve and still would sell more than an Wii U exclusive Smash. Everyone actually likes and wants a 3ds.

They’re both tasteless, but clones are even more tasteless and it’s hilarious that you think a clone would add more than a non-clone. I like how you said Robin didn’t count because they use the male one more and now you’re saying neither version matters.

Every single thing encouraged for him to get replaced by someone else. Lucina has one or two things over him. If she was an original character she would’ve sure as hell give more taste than that generic perfect anime harem protagonist goodie two shoes Chrom.

You’re the one to talk. You’re trying to say a Wii U exclusive Smash would save the Wii U which is straight up patheic denial. Wii U was a failure with the market. Smash ain’t gonna save the console. Your argument is utter trash.

          • Nothing says “diverse” like a blue haired protagonist with a sword. What you said would have actually made sense if Sakurai put creativity to use and gave all the characters unique attacks and not the same attacks with different animations. Doesn’t Ike use an axe too? Where is it?

Geno was created by Square. It would have taken more effort to use Geno instead of K. Rool. K. Rool actually appeared in over 10 games. Geno appeared in only 1, and cameos in another several years later. If Geno later become a playable character, then it’s only fair that hundreds of other one-time characters are in the game.

“Just because you don’t know who he was doesn’t mean you speak for everyone nitwit. Ike is a popular lord who his inclusion is deserving. You’re saying Fire Emblem a 14 game series should’ve got ONE rep? That is insanely selfish.”

The pot said to the kettle. Is insulting my intelligence supposed to add credibility to your statements? If Ike was so popular, why was the franchise still “dying” until 2012? Custom Robo wasn’t that popular either, despite having several games, the last one released in the same year as Ike’s last game. #DoubleStanburgers

Yeah, so? One good selling game doesn’t mean Sakurai should be planning 3 whole characters, especially considering that Tropical Freeze sold even more at nearly twice the price. Splatoon sold nearly 4 1/2 million copies, does that mean we’re going to get 4 or 5 different Inklings?

But didn’t he say he had extra time? So instead of getting Mewtwo done faster, or Lucas, or spend time to make colors customizable instead of 8 pre-sets, he uses the time to make 3 times as many specials for Palutena, like what did she need that for?

So yeah, add K. Rool or Dixie.

Nothing says “diverse” like being a clone of Marth. He’s the Liu Kang. At least Pikachu appears in every Pokemon game.

Oh, that’s why he’s in Smash Bros. Wow, what a great reason. :puke

I don’t recall Alph, Little Mac with hood, and all the Koopalings being their own characters. If anything, the Koopalings have more of a “backstory” than clone Pit. If you want a villain in Kid Icarus that’s not a clone, it’s Medusa, & the only alternate that has the right to be it’s own character is Classic Wario, which still hasn’t happened.

Now you’re fabricating. Xenoblade was out a week before the direct, Hyrule Warriors LEGENDS, not the original for the Wii U, Starfox Zero, okay what about the Yoshi’s Woolly World stage or the Gaur Plains stage on 3DS? #DoubleStanburgers

          • Ike’s main weapon is Ragnell tho. Ike, Marth, Robin and Lucina are drastically different from one another. Their stories are different. Their personalities are different. Yeah. Plus there was no heavy hitter swordsman. Since all types of shooting and punching are a thing. All ways of swinging a sword should be allowed too.

Yet it’s ironic since Sakurai considered him not once but twice both Brawl and Sm4sh. He finds him perfectly fitting.

Ike is popular among FIRE EMBLEM fans. Not everyone. Robin is supposed to represent Awakening and give diversity. Lucina is an extra clone that takes little time. Corrin has nothing to with Awakening. He is advertisement.

Tropical Freeze only has the same old Kongs. DK doesn’t expand it’s cast. Which only leaves two possible candidates. Splatoon was in a bad spot. Splatoon released when Smash 4 was already done developing the main cast and couldn’t make it in as DLC since Inkling didn’t win the ballot.

Nope. That time for entire sets of Custom moves was apart of the development time. Not the extra leftover time that usually can only go to clones. #Assumptions

Maybe next game since choices are starting to be narrowed and their popularity is starting to shine.

Marth is the icon character of FE. Doesn’t matter how much excuses you make.

Don’t know what you’re blabbering about. Every FE character actually has an solid reason.

Little Mac has 16 alts in total. Everyone only has 8.

Koopalings were an added effort than just recolors of Junior like everyone else.

Too bad. There was no room for Medusa. Dark Pit literally got in the game in the first place because he can be a clone that takes little time. Unless you’re saying they replace a unique newcomer for Medusa.

Fates was in a better position than all of them. Legends came out in 2014. DLC doesn’t count. You’re being ignorant. It didn’t take too long for Fate’s release and it wasn’t too short to complete Bayonetta’s and Corrin’s development.

          • In what ways are swordsmen inferior to bare handers? They’re faster, they’re more powerful, & they reach further, so that’s the whole trifecta.

            Good for Geno.

Ike is popular among FIRE EMBLEM fans. Not everyone. Robin is supposed to represent Awakening and give diversity. Lucina is an extra clone that takes little time. Corrin has nothing to with Awakening. He is advertisement.

Sakurai went with Corrin because 1. He’s a Fire Emblem super-fan, 2. He didn’t want to wait until Smash Bros. 5. 3. He didn’t want to pass up the opportunity and risk IS making yet another Fire Emblem game with a new hero.

That would be so ridiculous. Donkey Kong is just a simple platforming game. Why does it need as many characters as Fire Emblem? You’re just grasping for straws at this point. Inkling didn’t have to win any predetermined ballot. The sales alone suggest the demand.

How did he have the time to add extra moves to Palutena of all characters and not anybody else? Maybe Mewtwo or Ryu could have benefitted from getting actual variations instead of nothing. “It’s better than nothing!”

The reason being “He’s from a new game, so we have to advertise it”. Strange because Little Mac, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Greninja, Wii Fit Trainer, & Villager weren’t there to promote their games. Notice how Eliwood, Ephraim, Alm, etc. never were considered.

& that’s understandable because the 4 wireframe models don’t look that different from one another.

Somebody who thinks that Hyrule Warriors Legends came out in 2014, is calling me ignorant. That’s hilarious. It’s pretty obvious that Corrin was planned well before any of these other games were even announced or revealed to the public. Believe any story you want, but Sakurai’s team did not “pressure him”.

I’m not grasping for straws. So basically not putting different main characters for a game for once is ridiclous? They don’t need as much as Fire Emblem but to expand their cast a bit would be nice. I’m talking about the Smash DLC ballot. The sales play a factor but it isn’t just SALES alone.

Customs were already in development. They just decided to show some of the unique ones like Palutena and the Miis. Who were roughly revealed on the same day. No way would they put all the efforts on them first. Everyone was getting custom moves developed around the same time. Plus we don’t know the exact order on how everything was done. Yeah they could’ve but they didn’t. It’s a shame but that’s how it is. Opportunities will be missed.

But most of the time. Newest matters. Little Mac would’ve had his Brawl Assist design if new never played a role. Ike actually came to America too. Nothing wrong with putting him in Brawl. Smash is not about advertising and just nothing but new. It’s a balance between that. Which is what really makes Smash special.

Love how you’re trying to excuse Little Mac but if it was anyone else Sakurai would’ve been accused of bias toward the series. You know it’s true.

You’re right, they didn’t pressure him. Sakurai was having doubts and the team convinced him to just go for it. No other game was in an similar position to Fates. That is how reality is. Just like Final Fantasy, did Square want the most recent main character, or did they want their best? I will never be into that series, but even I would take Cloud over “Noct”. Fire Emblem isn’t even as popular as FF let alone Pokemon. Yeah, it’s egos too.

So to have been fair, only the Miis should have gotten those. Imagine what could have gotten done instead of Sakurai giving one of his pet projects an excess of animations.

Little Mac actually looks nothing like his Punch-Out!! Wii design, which was developed by NLG in Canada. Eastern devs have this silly rule that white character’s from the west can only have blonde hair. Sakurai probably thinks he’s Japanese, well news flash, he’s from New York.

Remember when Smash Bros. was only about the best of Nintendo? Look at all of those memorable characters: Mario, Link, Pikachu, the Wii Fit Trainer, what a prestigious group of characters. But in all seriousness, how successful is Kid Icarus: Uprising compared to Splatoon? As I said before, Smash Bros. doesn’t add value to games, but the other way around.

Misery? What are you going to say next, how I have “unhappiness and stress”? Yeah, I didn’t just mention a few other games that were also in that “position”, most notably a game featuring Paper Mario, a series that has had 4 games and counting since 2001.

          • You’re trying to say Sakurai has an obession with FE. He doesn’t. Roy’s a pure one-off who only got in Melee to advertise Sword of Seals. He was supposed to be a one-time thing but since the Smash fanbase has a major thing for Japanese exclusive characters he was revived.

Nope. Smash has it’s flaws and the developer wouldn’t let the fans control everything either. Just like with Nintendo. Sakurai listens to the fans. That’s why Mega Man’s in the game. He’s just not letting the series become a lifeless milkfest. If there’s no freedom than Smash’s good as dead. The new developer would’ve been convinced by the team just like Sakurai. Awful point dude. Your “criticism” is unfair and flawed. Crappy criticism like that is what every developer is above since it’s downright bashing. Fair criticism that acknowledges both sides and state an opinion with respect is what developers listen to and look at.

Not happening. Final Fantasy’s a third party series. It’s only getting one character. It’ll be a miracle if it’ll even get two ESPECIALLY from Square. Enix. Fire Emblem brought character diversity than just one-offs and series like that are on top like Zelda, Pokemon and Mario. Fire Emblem sure is popular now if not already because of Awakening.

His Punch Out design and Smash design are identical! What are you talking about?

It still is, that’s why classic old stuff is still there. If it was what you’re trying to blindly assume. Mega Man wouldn’t have a updated design of his old look. Pacman wouldn’t have his World design. Sheriff, Color TV, and Prince Sable old niche stuff are assist trophies. Smash is not about the “best” of Nintendo. Smash is about CELEBRATING Nintendo’s history. Kid Icarus is a classic as old as Legend of Zelda. It was only on certain conditions and dumb luck on how Corrin and Roy got in. Splatoon is not only ridiculously new but Kid Icarus has been around way longer and lots before Brawl wished Pit and Kid Icarus would return since it was one of those neglected classics like FE.

That’s it? Fire Emblem has been around longer since the Famicom! Paper Mario was not in a similar position. Even if it was. Fates was in the BEST position. It doesn’t matter how good the second place may seem to be. The first matters only. It doesn’t matter what the case is dude. Advertisement was needed and Fates was there. There is no point whining about the unchangeable. What’s done is done.

          • I’m talking about when Melee was released in 2001.

Sakurai loves taking credit for everything. Snake was Kojima’s idea. Bayonetta was pre-determined, and there is proof & common sense to explain why. If he loves to take fan requests then why would he need this “ballot” now? It was so fake. He even admitted to being a major fan of the game.

Wow, so Fire Emblem is more recognizable than Final Fantasy? Wow, because I’m pretty sure that Final Fantasy 7 revolutionized the Playstation.

Being superhuman & being god-like are two different things. Everyone on the roster is. They all have ways to win, & ways to lose, except Palutena being a god-like entity doesn’t need to shrink down to human size if she can just flick opponents with her finger. Mewtwo? LMAO I knew you’d bring him up. He’s NOT god-like. He’s the first and only Pokemon made by man.

Why not? The Wii U has done so poorly in sales, & now that you don’t need a Wii-U to play Smash Bros, there’s no reason to have to get a 2nd copy of the game. What’s the decisive factors to pick Wii-U over 3DS? When they have the same rosters, the 3DS version is cheaper & on a console more people owned & can take with them anywhere? Hmm…

            So…why does he look Asian?

They had to create a new model for Little Mac because his sprites wouldn’t work with the side-scrolling gameplay of Smash.

I believe I heard you mention this about 4 times now. So what? Fire Emblem sales gone from terrible to decent, that doesn’t mean it’s a flagship franchise right now.

Fates was already out in Japan for almost a year. He was already well into the game. When would he ever want to pass up adding more Fire Emblem heroes?

          • Roy wasn’t powerful then either. He’s one of the worst lords.

Yes, Snake was begged to be in, but Sonic’s an different case. Bayonetta was a suggested character from the ballot. Stop trying to say he “rigged” it for not putting in Goku and Spongebob. Who were the top choices because America was trolling the ballot.

I never said that stop making blind contradictory statements. Final Fantasy is nowhere near Nintendo. Everyone believed Cloud stood no chance and was one of those dream come true picks.

It doesn’t matter. A lot of them are OP in their own ways. if you’re saying Palutena a goddess but STILL an Nintendo character a video game character. Can’t get nerfed, you simply lack creativity. Ganon is god-like too. He was still able to be put into Smash than being neglected because “LOLOL only the Master Sword can kill him! That’s not fair!” #DoubleStanburgers

3ds was planned to be the only exclusive game. The 3ds audience deserves at least somewhat equal treatment. The least that version can get is equal characters. That is ALL he promised for both versions. Wii U is ultimately the better version but not everyone wants/can afford a Wii U. Plus this is the first time in history since there’s a handheld Smash.

Little Mac looks the exact same from his Wii design. Name me a Little Mac that is similar to Sm4sh’s design? You can’t? Exactly, all Little Mac’s before Wii were average white guys. It’s not exactly down to the point completely but it’s still based off Wii’s design.

It’s ironic since it did promote to an major IP. Barely below Donkey Kong and Animal Crossing. Every other major IP below Fire Emblem either has less games or suffers from hiatuses like Star Fox and Metroid. https://mynintendonews.com/2016/04/28/fire-emblem-is-now-considered-a-major-ip-for-nintendo/ :3

Fire Emblem was an upcoming for America and worldwide in general. Cmon dude. You’re just being desperate. .-.

Here is a quote directly from Source Gaming about it. “After internal analysis, we decided that if we’re going to make DLC, we would choose a character from a soon-to-be-released new game. After consulting many times with Nintendo and looking at the upcoming release schedule, Fire Emblem Fates was in just the right spot. It’s already been released in Japan, but is yet to be released overseas, making it a prime candidate in terms of timing. I personally felt that having too many Fire Emblem characters was a problem, but after talking it over with the development staff and discussing logistics, I felt certain that I could make them a fun character..”. FE was in the best spot. It’s time to stop. Corrin’s an unique fun character anyways.

          • He was stronger than Marth when it was only those 2.

Yes, Snake was begged to be in, but Sonic’s an different case. Bayonetta was a suggested character from the ballot. Stop trying to say he “rigged” it for not putting in Goku and Spongebob. Who were the top choices because America was trolling the ballot.

So yeah, Snake was begged to be in, & the demand for Sonic was so overwhelming that Sakurai would have gotten a lot of flak, if he didn’t. However, Nintendo and Sega were talking long before then, as they started to begin collaboration on their Olympics series.

That’s the storyline Sakurai wants you to believe. He wanted Bayonetta, but understood she had no real credentials behind her; she can’t roll with the likes of Sonic, Pac-Man, Mega Man, & Ryu. So he built this whole ploy around her, and she was in development for months. Now you’re the one that’s “contradicting himself”.

It was more like Square’s interest than Nintendo’s, as Square didn’t even consider Cloud to appear in PSASBR. Sakurai is not this miracle worker he claims to be.

Only the Master Sword can stop Ganondorf, yeah…in the Zelda Universe, where plumbers, bounty hunters, and f’ing Pikachu doesn’t exist. You’re not pitting Ganondorf with regular people, you’re pitting them with characters who are superior in their own right, while a god is superior above all of them because you can’t beat a god.

The Wii-U was in trouble from the start. Sales were staggering & 3rd parties have been pulling out. Clearly, that would have given Sakurai enough time to go “Hmm, looks like it’s up to me to actually give a shit about trying to move this console.” But nope. He got too much pride to do what’s best for business.

I disagree. I already said what makes the two models look so different. The NES’s graphics were so inferior at the time. Maybe he was intended to be Caucasian or that his Italian heritage would look hispanic or Asian on 8-bit graphics.

What’s the difference? They’re still coughing out games like always. Star Fox was on a hiatus because of directors who were unwilling to do it until PG, & Metroid has Federation Force coming soon & is rumored to be in the works from NLG.

And they didn’t need a character in Smash Bros to sell the game, it was already getting enough coverage worldwide.

AKA “I am in the middle of Fates & I’m obsessed with Corrin, & I didn’t care what anybody else thinks. I don’t want to wait until the next Smash game to make him, I wanted him now now now. I wouldn’t have settled for anybody else because I hardly have any creativity judging by all the newcomers.”

            backup368 on July 12 |
          • No he wasn’t. Marth had better range AND a better recovery. Marth isn’t even an one-off like Roy. He’s the icon character of the series. Roy is one of the least liked lords. He barely had anything going for him and that small things barely got him in as Melee DLC since Pichu and Young Link aren’t as cared about.

Stop with the excuses. He put in Cloud Strife. If that doesn’t prove he listens to the fans then you’re just being pathetic. He doesn’t do what the fans say all the time but he still listens to them.

#Doublestandburgers much? Stop making baseless accusations without any evidence. Lots wanted Bayonetta. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBsFovFKFbw Look at the comments on this video. There was tons of demand for her. You’re just mad because you didn’t get Shovel Knight. Stop contradicting yourself. Bayonetta was involved the ballot. That’s why she shares animations and a model with Zero Suit. Her moves were copied directly from her game. Cloud Strife and Corrin were likely developed months before since they weren’t involved with the ballot. But Bayonetta was copy pasted from Bayonetta 2. Meaning he DID look at the ballot, final it and Bayonetta was most convenient. You have no proof that can say otherwise.

Sakurai had to convince Square Enix to give Smash content like Geno and Cloud. They could’ve easily refused and Cloud isn’t even related to Nintendo like everyone else. So yeah, that was a dream come true miracle situation. Sony has more relation with Final Fantasy and Square nowadays yet they turned down Sony’s offer. Nintendo could’ve been a similar case.

That’s not true. Ike killed a goddess before. By your logic that means he’s too op! Everyone has Smash has their own super human capability that can take down a god. Shulk killed a god and can see into the future. By your stupid logic he would be too OP since he can see everyone’s every move. Just stop already. Palutena easily could’ve worked and she did.

That wouldn’t of did shit and you know it! Get your head out of your ass. Wii sold so well because it stuck with the casual audience. It WASN’T because of Smash. Sm4sh wouldn’t of did well if it was Wii U exclusive. 3ds Smash sold pitifully better than Wii U version before like the Wii the casual audience love it. Wii U had bad advertising and Nintendo has to learn from that which apparently they are. They can’t hide behind Smash. They never will. Sm4sh on the Wii U wouldn’t magically make it successful and get all the 3rd parties back. What kind of dream world are you living in? Everyone saw Wii U as “Wii 2.0” which nobody liked. The gamepad felt too clunky and weird for lots.

They’re the exact same. Also, no since graphics were improving and he was still a white guy. Your conspiracy baseless theories won’t work here.

Metroid series jumped from Other M to Federate Force. One was terrible and the other is not looking that great either. Also the fact Metroid is still not liked by Japan is a pretty bad combo for the series putting it under Fire Emblem. Star Fox has less games, Star Fox Zero also got not that great feedback because of motion controls. Star Fox recently has gotten just 64 remakes. It’s safe to say Fire Emblem is above both of those since it has more games and is more liked by the world.

Excuses, you can’t say he lacks creativity when he made Smash and thought of a lot of ideas which is what made Smash, Smash. He has more creativity than the entire Smash fanbase since you idiots like to believe that Palutena is OP just because she’s a goddess even though a lot of characters have god killing capabilities. He is nowhere near obsessed with Fire Emblem. He denied it himself along with Kirby. Every upcoming game wasn’t in the best position. “Sakurai is obviously in bias toward FE because he didn’t put in what I wanted and what I wanted alone for advertisement and should’ve held that one character for Smash 5 even though that’s not how it works at all but I don’t care! I didn’t get what I wanted so I’m going to cry until Sakurai gets replaced!!” #Doublestandburgers Stop acting like you know anything. You clearly don’t and you keep contradicting yourself more and more. Corrin is the advertisement character. Can’t accept it? Too bad.

          • Yeah…to make up for his lack of POWER. Didn’t you just say how Roy was “Heavily demanded”? So which is it?

Nobody asked for Cloud because they didn’t even know his eligibility.

#Doublestandburgers much? Stop making baseless accusations without any evidence. Lots wanted Bayonetta. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBsFovFKFbw Look at the comments on this video. Meaning he DID look at the ballot, final it and Bayonetta was most convenient. You have no proof that can say otherwise.

Let’s base a whole gaming population on one YouTube video that is pro-Bayonetta. If the ballot was real, then show us the results. Going back to the form of the ballot, 1. There was no way to tally characters or keep record of how many votes characters got, 2. Sakurai doesn’t know English, so how could he read English votes or votes in any language besides his native Japanese? 3. Who on the team would have time to read all the votes? The guy flat out lied to your faces just so he could convince you a ratchet character he has the hots for is more popular than she really is. If people actually wanted her then why haven’t more people bought her games??? I wasn’t expecting Shovel Knight. YCG isn’t lucrative enough & it hasn’t even came out in Japan yet.

More truth-stretching. Anything Sakurai says, everyone will believe, which of course he’d say he takes all the credit. “Oh my arm hurts”, well wait until you direct games like GTA V & Fallout 4.

            1. Did Ike & Shulk really kill gods, or did their magical weapons? You don’t kill the weapons, you KO the people using them. 2. Yeah, those were villains they defeated. Like Pit defeated Hades. They have “immortal” characters as final bosses to make you feel like beating the game was a great accomplishment. Palutena’s not a villain. You don’t have a real fight with her in KI:U.

“That wouldn’t of did shit and you know it!” Nice grammar.

We’re not talking about the Wii. We’re talking about the Wii U. You’re just trying to shift the blame to Nintendo to make it seem like Sakurai didn’t have to do anything to justify making the Wii-U game worth 60 bucks and the 3DS game worth 40 bucks. If anything, all that the Wii U version has more of is 8 Player Smash & more music. Wow.

Metroid series jumped from Other M to Federate Force. One was terrible and the other is not looking that great either. It’s safe to say Fire Emblem is above both of those since it has more games and is more liked by the world.

Other M, you mean the game that’s got a stage in the new Smash Bros? Metroid has nearly as many games as Fire Emblem. Metroid sold almost 18 million copies. FE didn’t even break the 10 million mark.

            backup368 on July 14 |
          • Let me fix this for you. Roy is weak in all areas. Popularity, power, character, personality, and as a unit. He only got enough popularity because of some trend in Melee and him just being in the game somehow got him enough demand that he made it in as Melee DLC than Pichu or Young Link. They’re both similar cases themselves. As I said, Roy has no hope. It was the Smash fanbases’ fault for likely giving him a future.

Sorry, kiddo. That’s where you’re wrong once more. Lots wanted Cloud Strife. Everyone just didn’t believe that he had no chance because he wasn’t related to Nintendo. Stop with the contradictions please. #Doublestandburgers

Just stop. You’re grasping for straws. All those comments wanting Bayonetta proves how much demand she has. There is more demand for her than just off that video. Enough to get her around the top when the results were finalized. Actually there is, that is why the ballot was looked over, quickly finalized and one of the most voted characters there was the most convenient. It makes the most sense. Then explain on how Sakurai tallied the results off America then? Of course Sakurai wouldn’t read the comments. That wasn’t my point. It was to show that there was demand for this character. Excuses! He didn’t make up anything. He played by the rules, he just sped it up by removing irrelevant characters with his team too for the assist. Stop making your baseless conspiracy theories just because you have no more arguments on this subject much less actual evidence. People have been buying you fool. Just not as much as other games because Smash is filled with kiddies. Bayonetta is rated m in an sexual way not your average shooter which lots of kids play. You’ve long lost this argument. Just give it up, take the L and move on already. That gets you farther in life.

Your point is irrelevant. You have ZERO proof that says Sakurai lies to people. Don’t even try to use the harmless jokes like ZSS not returning which is clearly a joke he does for fun. Please, list me something where he flat out lied so I can debunk it. Smash still took a lot of work. It doesn’t matter if games like Fall Out 4 took more work. Smash STILL took a shit ton of work.

Their magical weapons are still in Smash aren’t they? So they still have the potential to take down gods. So what? The same can be said for Palutena. On certain grounds everyone just needs to not have a “true fight” with her just for Palutena to be in Smash. As I said, she can easily be nerfed and she did. #Doublestandburgers

Being an grammar nazi doesn’t make your arguments better. Nope, you’re just trying to shift the blame to Sakurai because he didn’t make Smash U the only version which would’ve bombed. I’m mentioning Wii on purpose you idiot. People won’t buy Wii U because it is seen as nothing but Wii 2.0. Wii U wasn’t successful with the casual audience, Wii was. Which is why Wii sold so well. Nintendo wasn’t successful and wasn’t gonna be successful with the U. Nintendo fully acknowledged that. You’re grasping for straws too much. #Doublestandburgers

Other M got a shitload of bashing which is rightfully so. Other M was a bad game. Just because it got a stage in Smash doesn’t mean the game is good. Metroid has been getting neglect and not as much love as Fire Emblem currently. Metroid may have outsold it but the IP is suffering from hiatuses and neglect. So it is safe to say Fire Emblem is above it.

          • Because he was cloned from a weak, slender character. If Sakurai didn’t want Lucina to be an alternate outfit for Marth, then why not Roy instead? Nope. Every FE character has to be fully fleshed-out.

Sakurai stated “Oh, please voted ONCE! Just once, please!”. I personally didn’t believe it considering this is Sakurai we are talking about, but many people really thought only one vote from their computer would count, so they picked their favorite, not many, if any, were for Cloud.

One video. There are countless videos for Shovel Knight, Shantae, K. Rool, Geno, even obscure characters such as Scorpion what have just as many views and comments. Ideas don’t come from the internet, they come from an individual’s twisted mind. Otherwise, Krystal would be a playable character. He didn’t tally anything; his “winner” was ALREADY decided. Do you work for Sakurai? How would you know the process? If he actually cared to consider characters via fan-service, a “ballot” wouldn’t even be necessary. This was just a gimmick to put another one of his vanity characters over. Go back to an early interview with Sakurai & he think of Bayonetta as “god’s gift” to action games. In actuality, it’s not that great, it’s full of Japanese & Anime tropes, and Devil May Cry & Ninja Gaiden do some of its mechanics a lot better and more pleasing to the eye. If you want action games that are exciting to play and don’t look like a big mess, there’s the Witcher & Batman Arkham games. So yeah, Sakurai’s obsessed with Bayonetta, what a shock to hear, he’s been known to lie to his fans, and he doesn’t care about opinions other than his own.

Your point is irrelevant. You have ZERO proof that says Sakurai lies to people. Don’t even try to use the harmless jokes like ZSS not returning which is clearly a joke he does for fun. “Quality over quantity.” Oops.
“It takes several months to create characters.” Oops.
“I’m not bias of any franchises.” Oops.
“I closely follow the Zelda series.” Oops.

The weapons do not give them immortality. Ike and Shulk are still human beings with human-level mortality. Palutena aside from her plethora of special attacks, she twirls around a tree, up smash is just like Pikachu’s thunder, and her final smash is a great big mushroom cloud. It’s insulting. Think of characters like DK & Bowser that are in great need of better final smashes.

Being an grammar nazi doesn’t make your arguments better. Nope, you’re just trying to shift the blame to Sakurai because he didn’t make Smash U the only version which would’ve bombed. If you make a 3DS game & a Wii-U game, the Wii-U game clearly needs to be worth more. It’s not rocket science. You got a portable console that you can take anywhere, everybody owns one, and the games are cheaper, so why would you want the Wii-U version if you don’t even need it? The more expensive version has to include more content, not the same. You seriously can’t be defending his irrational decisions.

Lucina is much more liked than Roy. Since she’s an entirely different character with loads of different stats in her game she was included in with barely any work and minor changes. That is the point of clones to put in fan favorites without taking from another. Base FE before DLC had lots of diversity thanks to Robin and Lucina.

ANOTHER strawman? Cloud wasn’t involved with the ballot. He was added in to make fans happy which he succeed greatly.

I would search for the Bayonetta speculation but it’s drowned by the real deal by thousands of content. K Rool has no future and lacks ground he’s been turned into spinoff fodder, Shovel Knight is an indie for christ sakes! That would be dumb with choices like Banjo and Snake. Cloud Strife is tons more popular and relevant than Geno. Knowing Square it was either one or the other. The winner was never decided idiot, Bayonetta was hand picked she was the most convenient and finalized she was one of the top because she’s actually relevant, her game is on the Wii U and she actually HAS a future. She also brought something different and really changes the perspective on future Smash character choice. Invalid points. “SAKURAI HAD BIAS TOWARD HER AND OTHER GAMES THAT ARE WAY BEYOND THE GRASP OF NINTENDO ARE BETTER!!111” L. Just…. L. Stop. You lost. This is way too desperate of an argument. #Doublestandburgers

Sakurai never said anything about no more clones. The closest he likely said was less carbon copies. Which the only carbon copies are Dr. Mario, Lucina and Dark Pit. Which is half less than all Melee’s clones.

When did he ever say that? Also how is including extra for fans that take away nothing not quality? You make no sense. You’re acting like everyone hates the clone trio which is beyond inaccurate.

Of course it did! That’s why all the DLC characters have nothing to do with the ballot except for Bayonetta who is a copy paste from Bayonetta 2 moves and look wise. She shares same animations with Zero Suit on some cases like the baseball bat swinging animation.

He said no bias ONLY toward FE and Kirby which is justifiable and basically confirmed with the right facts. Nothing about Kid Icarus. https://sourcegaming.info/2016/05/11/sakuraifanmisconception505/

            1. When did he ever say that. 2. Ghirahim would like a word with you. Just because he didn’t shoehorn in a Zelda one-off as a playable character doesn’t mean he doesn’t catch up with the series. That’s Zelda’s problem. TOO. MANY. ONE-OFFS.

Nice strawman. You’re just downright getting desperate for excuses to say Palutena shouldn’t be there. Smash makes use of it’s resources. Lots of characters share something to another. Weak argument. As I said, just take the L and move on.

It’s not rocket science either to realize the Wii U version did get more. Just not shoehorned characters since Sakurai made his promise.

So basically a small series that’s not even a major IP like Pikmin can get a game on the Wii U and Metroid can’t? Excuses. Metroid has been getting neglect. It’s last game on the Wii was a horrible one. The worst in the series. It’s not even popular in Japan! So, yeah, it’s safe to say it’s below FE.

          • When Lucina fights Chrom in Chapter 4 of Awakening, Chrom notices her fighting style is the same as his. And Chrom’s fighting style in Awakening is nothing like Marth’s.

          • @Magcargo

You’re right. It would be a middle ground between Ike’s and Marth’s. Even you can’t deny he wouldn’t do FE justice. He’s another blue haried male swordsman. His personality doesn’t even stick out it’s your average perfect anime protagonist personality. It makes me happy to this day Robin was put in over him.

Why is she different from Marth? Because Chrom is the one that’s supposed to have his characteristics.

He was added because Square wanted to promote Final Fantasy.

Any given FE character has no future. /argument Bayonetta has underwhelming sales. 1 million sales, that’s terrible. Lionhead Studios was shut down when Fable 3 sold over 5 million copies. What makes you think Bayonetta is a draw? She’s a hack and slash character? You mean Ryu Hayabusa & Dante aren’t?

            http://www.examiner.com/article/sakurai-new-smash-bros-to-focus-on-quality-over-quantity

They are not at all happy about them. Dark Pit is the least favorite character in Smash Bros. & they know it’s all because of Sakurai & his politics that he gets to be a “Nintendo All Star”. Clone characters are an example of lazy design. What fighting games today have them now? None. This isn’t 1992! Tekken 1 was over 20 years ago.

What does that have to do with it? Maybe the team, once again, got lazy.

Once again, he could be LYING.

I never mentioned Ghirahim, but ahem, where is Impa? Tetra? One-offs, huh?

At most she should have been a bubble character, Sakurai made it so obvious that he treated her like god’s gift to Smash Bros. Like really? He didn’t have a better character to reveal during E3?

How about putting out a $60 product instead of being so prideful? It’s because of him that you don’t have to buy a Wii-U to play the newest Smash Bros, when the Wii-U could have very much needed more sales! Stop defending this guy.

Bad argument to make there. The Wii didn’t have a new Pikmin game but it did have Metroid. So if we were still in the Wii’s life cycle you’d be arguing how Pikmin is dead. Bayonetta’s not even popular in Japan. It nearly has as many sales as Rayman. The J-Pop Fire Emblem game also sold terribly in Japan, it doesn’t even appeal to it’s own culture.

          • Lucina was trained to fight like Chrom didn’t she? She is in fact. Different than Marth in her home game Awakening. Chrom is also blander than her. Your perfect anime protagonist. He would do FE no justice with just bluehaired male swordsmen. Time to give it up.

Square may have had those intentions but it’s clear Sakurai doesn’t. He never mentioned the remake. He was once again, added for the fans. Give it up.

Yes they do. Lucina is going places than just FE. Project X Zone anyone? Ike and Marth are literally landmarks of Fire Emblem. Bayonetta was more popular in the ballot. That is that. Bayonetta is the most convenient hack n slash character. SINCE SHE’S ACTUALLY ON THE WII U. Dante isn’t! For crying out loud just stop. Just because Bayonetta doesn’t have the best sells doesn’t automatically mean she’s not in Nintendo’s hands. Platinum will likely approach Nintendo if they decide to do Bayonetta 3.

Just because lots don’t like him doesn’t mean he doesn’t have fans and were somewhat happy about his inclusion. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/62397255 for example this. It still is an Nintendo all-star. Mario, Link, Kirby and such are there. Just because the roster has variety with some different characters doesn’t mean anything. It’s about Nintendo’s history too, btw. So they’re not gonna just ignore niche stuff when they have an connection to Nintendo’s history like Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem. Whether you like it or not. Small stuff are going to get lots of love. Because it’s about Nintendo’s history.

Stop being a tool please. Smash Bros is not an average fighting game. If no fighting games have clones then that’s a good thing on technical terms that Smash is still keeping the clone tradition. Since that’s apart of history and brings in fan favorites without taking away from others.

Nah. If they were lazy, characters like Ryu, Corrin and Cloud Strife wouldn’t have as much work put into them. Shit argument. Bayonetta was from the ballot. Stop denying it just because you don’t like Sakurai and is trying excuses to bash him.

Good grief! He’s not lying. It’s just another strawman conspiracy from you.

Tetra, Toon Zelda and a few others like Mewtwo was planned for Brawl but couldn’t make it in because of time schedule issues. The time was so bad back in Brawl the game had to be delayed 3 times straight and the game was still bad. It is waaay too late for Impa. Impa was overshadowed in the Ocarina of Time days by Zelda and Ganon.

Yes how dare Sakurai fairly give Kid Icarus it’s spotlight and not neglect it! You’re acting like Pacman and the Miis revealed alongside her don’t exist. #Doublestandburgers

It’s strawman after strawman with you huh? Wii U’s sales wasn’t automatically going to do better dumbass if it was just that alone. It would’ve bombed. Get it through your thick skull. The casual audience AND the hardcore audience hates the Wii U. Stop making excuses.

So? Donkey Kong and Animal Crossing had games on the Wii too. Even Fire Emblem had a game on the Wii. Everyone got a game on the Wii and transitioned to the Wii U or 3ds. Except for Mother which the series is over. F-Zero who’s getting just as much neglect. Metroid has been getting neglect. Nintendo does not know how to approach the series yet. I wouldn’t be arguing that Pikmin is dead. I didn’t care about Pikmin back then. Punch Out isn’t that big in Japan either. Difference is: both Punch Out and Bayonetta are great games. So Nintendo has nothing to lose if they approach the series further because they haven’t messed up with it yet and when the developers of the separate games tried to expand the respective universes. They succeeded and it got good feedback. Metroid is different. It isn’t popular in Japan sure but it could’ve been fine if Other M didn’t exist. Other M tried to expand the universe and failed. So, yeah. It’s been getting neglect because NIntendo’s labbing the Metroid series. Until it rises up from the ashes it is safe to say FE’s above it.

That “JPOP FE game” isn’t considered to be an actual FE game. Just a game that uses both SMT and FE’s aspects. It’s more of a shoutout toward both games, mostly Fire Emblem than an actual mainstream game. So yeah. I won.

Wow, a non-canon crossover from a different company. As long as Marth’s story is re-made, which is only twice so far, he has no future. Ike, no. “SINCE SHE’S ACTUALLY ON THE WII-U” even though at least 3 other guests characters have not appeared in a game on the Wii-U.

Just because lots don’t like him doesn’t mean he doesn’t have fans and were somewhat happy about his inclusion. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/62397255 for example this. A clone of Pit doesn’t add variety, it just adds repetition. If Dark Pit is a playable character, then any character can be a playable character, like Epona or Mudkip. “Nintendo’s history”.

What does that have to do with fighting games? Fan favorites, right? They serve no purpose other than to feed his ego. If I want Mario, I’ll pick Mario. I have next to no desire to play as him in his doctor getup.

Bayonetta was from the ballot & pro wrestling is real.

Tetra, Toon Zelda and a few others like Mewtwo was planned for Brawl but couldn’t make it in because of time schedule issues. Impa was overshadowed in the Ocarina of Time days by Zelda and Ganon.

Then what the hell were they doing at the time, giving Metaknight his own story mode & then scrap it? If they plan something, they should take them longer than usual.

Yes how dare Sakurai fairly give Kid Icarus it’s spotlight and not neglect it! You’re acting like Pacman and the Miis revealed alongside her don’t exist. #Doublestandburgers

“Fairly”, LOL. As I said before, the popularity does not at all reflect the representation in Smash Bros. If Kid Icarus got 2 new character from one game, then Donkey Kong should get Dixie, Cranky, & a Klaptrap.

Geno is the only strawman I know. You still need a console mover! Playstation had Final Fantasy. The original XBox had Halo.

So to summarize what you said, if Sakurai doesn’t put you in Smash, you don’t matter. That makes all the sense in the world. But if Ness & Captain Falcon stay in the game, it’s only fair any characters who are more popular than they are make it into the game. #QuarterPounder

If you ready a study form several years ago, Japanese folk get nauseated if they play FPS’s. They weren’t used to the genre back then, and that explains the bad sales from the Metroid Prime games.

That’s how they originally marketed it before all the online backlash. Then they smartened up when they realized that they didn’t want a “Fire Emblem” game associated with dress up & pop.

            backup368 on July 19 |
          • Wrong. There are multiple main characters in Awakening. Robin is one of them. He literally is the final boss. It would be foolish to say he isn’t a main character. Lucina is also a main character. She had a lot of focus in the game too. Chrom may be a main character but he is generically generic. He’s so generic Project X Zone had to take a few pages off Sakurai with the way he approached Chrom.

Give up on this argument. Your arguments have turned nothing into strawmans and contradictions.

Which makes it even better. Smash is non canon but the characters in there like Ness got more love because of that game. You forgot that Marth and Ike are apart of FE’s history. They’re going to keep getting referenced in future games like what Awakening, Fates, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions: all of them recent games did. Their amiibos are sure to keep getting them appearances too. It’s safe to say that as long as Fire Emblem is alive. Marth and Ike are going to stay alive. They and their series have been apart of Nintendo somewhat. Dante hasn’t. As I said dude. Bayonetta is the most convenient. Everyone loved her inclusion. Even after a while lots of the salty people turned around, looked at her and enjoyed playing as her.

Yes it does. It shapes up the roster differently and makes it less generic. It’s one out of 57 anyways. So even in the end if Dark Pit didn’t spice up the roster there’s still 57 different characters and it’s going to keep increasing if the series goes on. Epona and Mudkip don’t play exactly like Link or Pikachu do they? Dark Pit is literally Pit both backstory and character. Which is the point of his inclusion. He’s extra that slightly spices up the roster.

The only one with the ego is the one pretending people who prefer Doc over Mario don’t exist. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/632937-super-smash-bros-for-nintendo-3ds/70269461 This right here proves that Doc Mario has fans. Get off your high horse.

Strawman. Bayonetta is from the ballot and you don’t have the slightest bit of proof that says otherwise. Meanwhile I do, her being a copy paste from her own game moveset and animations isn’t pure coincidence.

Have you seen the amount of content in that game? So much was included and even more was planned that ideas and characters that were going to make it into the final game was scrapped. That’s how bad it was.

Cranky and Klaptrap lack ground. Dixie was going to be in Brawl but unfortunately was one of the characters scrapped. Even now she’s getting pushed to the side by Smash fans for King K Rool who’s long irrelevant. Again, it wasn’t on Kid Icarus things turned bad for DK. The only character that would make sense putting in is Dixie.

Don’t deny, you’ve been making tons of strawmans. Problem is, those were better systems than the Wii U. Wii U had bad advertisement. It was WAY too late to suddenly have Smash Bros as the console mover. Which is highly unlikely that’s gonna save it either.

That is just a terrible argument, Captain Falcon and Ness were thrown in at the last second in the very first game. When they were popular for it’s time back then. If they weren’t in that game they wouldn’t of been in the series at all. At least you tried though.

The Japanese just doesn’t like Metroid which severely hurts the series.

They didn’t. Let me tell you what REALLY happened. Okay? Atlus said they were going to do a game that has aspects of FE and SMT. Nintendo advertised it as a crossover, which led many’s hopes up. Since the final product was something drastically different. it’s clear a crossover wasn’t original plan. So this wasn’t a Fire Emblem game. It’s a one-off with the potential to become a one-off series that shoutouts both games mostly FE.

        • Fire Emblem yes.

          Kid Icarus no.

Are you saying that just because Dark Pit got in? Dark Pit was planned to be a costume but became a standalone character. Upgrading a costume to character is hardly putting a franchise on a pedestal.

It would be no different if Dark Samus or Donkey Kong JR became playable in the same way. Palutena being the only planned Kid Icarus character.

Fire Emblem: Fates – 1.32 million

            I know, what hot franchises.

We’ll he lied to you then, because Dark Pit was teased sporadically throughout development as if he & Palutena were actually 2 super-popular characters.

          • I am aware of the sales. But in your original point you mentioned both Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem but the latter is the only one that has shown a heavy increase in playable content (more than other key franchises as well). Sakurai himself has admitted he agrees with this complaint.

I can calm your nerves by saying that if Sakurai continues he will have to take the Fire Emblem feedback into account (if he acts on it is another story) but don’t make the assumption that Donkey Kong will get new playable characters just because Fire Emblem doesn’t. Nintendo have a lot of characters and a lot of franchises.

Well, as I said before, it’s been 13 years since people have been asking for King K. Rool or Dixie Kong, and as long as Sakurai’s in charge, if it hasn’t happened yet it never will.

Sakurai doesn’t develop Fire Emblem. His work includes Kirby and Kid Icarus Uprising.

Personally, I don’t think K. Rool or any other individual fan-requested character would be worth the potential risks that would come from changing directors. Cry all you want about characters like Corrin getting in over fandom darlings, but for all of his faults, Sakurai makes solid games. A new director may listen to the fans more, but may not “get” Smash the way Sakurai does.

I’d rather have a great game without K. Rool and Ridley than a mediocre one that has them.

      • What risk is there for a game like this? Tell me.

The primary mode in the whole game is 4 characters on a platform. What drives the game is not the gameplay, not the story, not the graphics, but the characters. The diversity of characters is of great importance, which Sakurai hardly bothers with.

I’m not here to speak for everyone, but Smash Bros. could be a game many people would play for years to come because of TIMELESS characters. I do not consider several of these new characters as such. I’d like a game I’d be willing to play over the course of the hardware cycle, like Overwatch. The DLC could have been DLC I wanted, but it’s not, at least the last 2 characters, and it’s not because Bayonetta and Corrin are popular Nintendo characters, but because Sakurai has an agenda to overrate his personal interests. I’m not so sure that those characters drew as much money as the first 5 did, and it’s no surprise why. Those could have been characters people could have actually paid for.

            backup368 on July 17 |
          • Yeah they’re totally missing out on some measly 12 dollars. Smash already has a satisfying amount of money from the base game alone. DLC money is purely extra so no one cares. Your point? Corrin’s purpose is to be from an upcoming game. Which showed up in directs before still in the works. But nobody cared since everyone was too busy speculating about Smash. It’s on idiots like you if you can’t keep an open mind.

Also, they didn’t have to include a character from an upcoming game, for the second time.

        MagcargoMan on July 19 |
        • “half of the stages are old ones” I do not get how that is a problem. Half or more are new stages. There’s only “3 Melee-style” clones. Melee style clones are carbon copies. Which is the clone trio. Wii U only Sm4sh would’ve bombed. 3ds version sold millions more. The other Smash games sold better than Smash 4 because more people were willing to buy the console. Wii U was hot garbage and even Nintendo knows that. Smash isn’t gonna magically save it. The series never did.

Peridot Gem on July 19 |
          • It’s a problem because after playing the last Smash for about eight years you start to get tired of those stages. The returning Melee stages are even more tiring because the only returning ones in Smash 4 were ones that already returned in Brawl. That’s 3 too many. No it wouldn’t have bombed. Smash 3DS sold more because people aren’t gonna go buy a Wii U for a game they can play already if they have a 3DS.

  10. No, not after the blunders and massive steps back with Smash he shouldn’t. All his massive contradictions, as well as his favouritism towards Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus really soured the experience. Hopefully the next Smash is directed by someone who treats series fairly instead of shilling one because he worked on its latest instalment.

    MagcargoMan on July 4 |
    • Since you purely believe Smash 4 was done wrong and every Smash game was “perfectly done” which was made by oh who? Sakurai. Then by that logic he deserves to stay since he does listen to feedback and the chance of “souring the experience” who be less likely.

Peridot Gem on July 7 |
      • No-one cares for your blind fanboyism. You’re bad enough on NIntendo Everything replying to literally every Smash comment I make, quit stalking me.

        MagcargoMan on July 8 |
        • Why would people care about your blind hate toward Sakurai then? Oh right no one does because you’re the only one with your experience soured. Everyone actually matured and found Corrin an surprisingly fun and unique character to play as. Your sir are in a very small minority. You can’t talk with the “no one cares argument” when you’re using an argument almost nobody agrees with.

You have no argument against that because you’ve been proven wrong. Sakurai has been doing a good job on the series and just because the experience has been ruined for you doesn’t mean he suddenly stops ignoring fan feedback. Something’s going to change next game. But your narrow mind unfortunately can’t see past that.

Peridot Gem on July 8 |
          • I like how you say blind hate when there’s good reason while you defend literally every decision made no matter how poor with the sole reason of “he’s the creator meaning he can do no wrong!” and nothing more.

No, I am not a minority. A lot of people are against Corrin’s inclusion and rightfully so. Nothing’s going to change with Sakurai in charge. The next game will just have more neglect for series Sakurai doesn’t care about despite being important while he shills whatever game he’s most recently worked on and whatever is his favourite series at the time.

            MagcargoMan on July 8 |
          • Nope you are likely going to get Dixie or King K Rool. Or less likely but still possible: Both. They both had demand in Japan and was one of the most requests picks. Which I just found in an official article so.

So that means by your logic too we’re polar opposites and we’re BOTH in the wrong. I act like he does no wrong and you’re acting like he did nothing BUT wrong. Which is just not true.

People don’t like Corrin but the majority still thinks Sakurai should stay.

“I act like he does no wrong and you’re acting like he did nothing BUT wrong.”

Nice strawman. Really highlights the fanboyism when you think criticising poor decisions somehow means you think everything is wrong.

What other reply? I don’t see it.

Seems like you’re saying he did nothing but wrong on this game to me. What plays a part in criticism is FAIRLY judging the work. You’re saying he should have his work and IP ripped out of his hands over a few questionable decisions in one game for crying out loud! Where everything is perfect in your eyes with Brawl, Melee and 64.

My comment under the “Don’t worry about him etc” comment from you.

Peridot Gem on July 8 |
          • No, it just means he made enough mistakes for it to noticeably have an impact on my enjoyment. No, it’s not “ripped out of his hands”. Do you feel Zelda was ripped out of Miyamoto’s hands since Aonuma calls the shots now? Sakurai can’t make Smash forever, eventually he’ll get too old and have to pass the torch. You act like he hasn’t let go of his own creations before. Or did you forget the last Kirby game Sakurai made was on the GBA?

That comment wasn’t there when you told me to look at it. It is now.

            MagcargoMan on July 9 |
          • He doesn’t have to do anything. Smash isn’t like Kriby. it’s a crossover fighting game bringing IPs together than being it’s own IP meaning there’s much more options for it’s future than having to drag on like oh I dunno? Kirby. Sakurai doesn’t want Smash to suffer from too many sequels and it’s inevitably going to turn bad and a milkfest if it keeps getting game after game. It happens with crossover games. Amiibo can be one of the ways Smash can be passed on and remembered. But that’s merely only a possibility out of tons. Stop acting like Smash HAS to go on. It truly doesn’t.

Peridot Gem on July 10 |
          • No, Smash is not some series that needs to end. You just don’t like the idea of it being made without Sakurai.

Do you even read what you say? It has more options yet somehow should end soon?

            MagcargoMan on July 11 |
          • Yes I HATE the idea of it without Sakurai. Especially with selfish people like you making a big deal over nothing and wishing he was gone. What over one good game claiming it “soured the experience”. Lol nah. He created the series, he has every right to keep it as his. Nintendo can find different ways to pass on Smash’s legacy if they love it that much.

By that logic Marvel VS Capcom is a major IP for Marvel and Capcom and they must drag it on forever. Just because Smash is a good game series, it’s still a crossover series. Meaning nothing is nowhere near in the wrong if the series is put to an end.

Yes it should end soon. The Smash fanbase is out of hand and must be stopped immediately. The possible NX version could be just a port with expanded dlc/content. Smash has options, but the options with the series stopping is simply the best options. Stop trying to drag it on and milk it just because it’s a good game series. It WILL decrease in quality if the series keeps going.

Peridot Gem on July 11 |
          • You’re the selfish one here; wanting something people enjoy to never get made again because of some purist “original creator” thing. NEWSFLASH: It’s a crossover fighter about Nintendo characters. Sakurai only created four of the playable characters in the game (the three Kirby characters and Edgy Pit). All of Nintendo’s characters and their biggest crossover should not be killed because someone who didn’t create the majority of it’s cast moved on. It’s funny though, you don’t seem to care about Kirby continuing to run without Sakurai when that was fully his creation.

No, you just want it to end for the selfish reason of Sakurai fanboyism. Others can make Smash, and it’s not right to end it because you can’t accept anyone but Sakurai. Smash 4 decreased in quality even though Sakurai made that, stop making excuses.

            MagcargoMan on July 12 |
          • If he shills his favorite games and what he works on. Why does have Kirby have more than 3 reps HM? Oh wait. It’s because he has common sense like every other human being! You basing things off of Smash 4 and “nothing’s going to change with him here” proves how idiotic you’re acting. You’re just finding excuses to toss him since he didn’t do everything you wanted for a game.

Peridot Gem on July 12 |
          • *Why does Kirby not have more than 3 reps

Peridot Gem on July 12 |
          • Because he doesn’t work on Kirby anymore, and not for a long time, so it’s easier for him to distance it from himself. Meanwhile, Kid Icarus Uprising was the game he made right before Smash 4 and it just coincidentally happens to get a tonne of content overshadowing most franchises.

            MagcargoMan on July 12 |
          • I would rather Smash die a good respectable game than living long enough to see it become a milkfest and drop in quality. That is not selfish. Yeah many people enjoy but they can’t stop complaining over every single little thing as if it’s gonna turn perfect. No thanks. A lot of developers wouldn’t put up with such a whiny fanbase. Kirby is his own IP. Smash Bros isn’t. Learn the difference.

Alas it’s your unfair opinion in a minority so. What you’re babbling about doesn’t matter. Of course YOU wouldn’t understand. You want the series milked so you can see your precious K Rool. How sad, it does not matter. It’s still starting to decrease in quality and it’s going to keep doing that.

Peridot Gem on July 12 |
          • You don’t have any facts. You think it’s milking because you’re so obsessed with Sakurai you literally don’t want there to be a Smash game that wasn’t controlled by him.

Yeah, Smash isn’t. That’s the point; that’s why it can go on without him. You make ridiculous excuses for why some series Sakurai fully made can go on, but a game which creations besides this own can’t.

It’s starting to decrease in quality because it lacks fresh blood. Stop being so dense.

            MagcargoMan on July 12 |
          • You can’t say that you have facts either. You’re trying to say that nothing would change if Sakurai stays which is downright bs. Lots of things changed from 64 to Melee to Brawl to Sm4sh.

Double standards much? Smash doesn’t have to go on just because you want it to.

As if you’re the one to talk. Stop acting like a new developer would automatically make things better. You’re only saying this garbage because you’re salty at Sakurai over K Rool.

Peridot Gem on July 12 |
          • No, tonnes of people want Smash to go on, especially when it has so much more to offer. You, on the other hand, are selfish enough that you want to deny tonnes of people a series they enjoy just because of some obsessive need to have it controlled by the same guy forever.

            MagcargoMan on July 12 |
          • So? That doesn’t automatically mean it’s a good thing. You will never understand since you’re too arrogant to realize the series can’t and shouldn’t go on forever.

        MagcargoMan on July 18 |
        • The only who’s lost their touch is the ones still trying to call themselves Smash fans. People like you have stepped way out of line because you’ve been spoiled so hard. You can’t even put respect on someone’s name and is deserving of it like Sakurai. All because he made decisions only you and a minority doesn’t like. It’s so bad you’re trying to accuse him of bias toward DLC choice just because he didn’t push potential aside just because it’s from a certain series.

Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem a few others too were up front. So they got it. No matter how niche the franchise is currently. It’s the history that matters since that’s what Smash is all about and is not gonna suddenly change everything it’s known for just because you don’t like the way things were done. Corrin got in. That’s reality. Everyone else had something holding them back so they couldn’t of been the DLC advertisement. It’s hilarious how you’re trying to whine nobody knew nor cared about Corrin when you’re hoping that Takamaru becomes a playable character. The one who literally got rejected because nobody outside japan knows him. See? Smash players have a love toward japan exclusive characters. So it’s not far off that Melee fans and some of the other Smash fans had demand for Roy to return. The Melee fanbase is fucking huge btw, soooo yeah.

Smash in certain conditions bases itself in total by history, popularity, and most important. What is going on with the recent games. Game and Watch doesn’t really make games anymore and it was just tiny minigames. So it’s no big deal and is justified to give one rep. Zelda suffers from one-offs so there it has the main 5 from Brawl. They still hold stable ground. Star Fox has been nothing but 64 so just Fox and Falco is justified. Metroid’s only playable focused character is Samus, they added a new rep from Brawl and it was ANOTHER Samus. That explains everything.

Only the playable characters need to be consistent which they are for different reasons but they’re still consistent. Assist Trophies, exclusive for the worser version enemies and insignificant stuff like that don’t need to be. It was the flavor of the month but they are quick to be ignored and not talked about anymore. Except for Stages which are significant and are ordered like this:

M LOZ P K DK AC M SF FE KI Everything Else
          ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^
          13 > 7 > 4 = 4 = 4 > 3 = 3 = 3 = 3 = 3 >

There is nothing wrong how the stages were done. It’s in the order you want so badly.

Peridot Gem on July 18 |
          • You defend him because as an FE fan you’ve been spoiled so hard. You can’t even fathom the idea of your god figure being flawed like every other human being on the planet. It’s so bad your trying to deny he had a bias for FE when he gave it two DLC characters when four character was already enough for a series the size of FE.

Yeah, the history matters. That’s why you add characters that matter to the history and not some one-off lord who will be forgotten by the next game. Nice hypocrisy with Takamaru when it’s no different from Lucas being in Brawl and Marth and Roy being in Melee.

“Zelda suffers from one-offs so there it has the main 5 from Brawl.”
And yet you make excuses for while FE deserves a lot despite almost every game except for Marth’s and Ike’s being filled with one-offs.

First of all, half of the stages most series got were old stages, not new. For example, only one of the Zelda stages in Wii U is actually new (Skyloft), while the rest are from older games. So in terms of new stages putting both 3DS and Wii U together, we got:

M LOZ P K DK AC M SF FE KI
            8 3 3 2 1 2 1 1 2 2

DK, Metroid and Star Fox are all bigger than KI but got less new stages. The old stages were only there for padding since splitting the game into two versions affected development on both (Mr Game & Watch didn’t even get a new stage at all).

            MagcargoMan on July 19 |
          • Strawman of an argument. You just can’t accept FE got more because of coincidence. He even outright says he doesn’t have a bias toward the series. You’re constantly making excuses. I’ve addressed this. It would be stupid to push back potential from a series just because it’s from a certain one.

Since when did King K Rool EVER have an impact of history? He never did. Neither did Splatoon. Then it’s no different than Corrin being in the game. So it’s fine then by your dumb logic. Corrin is going to be loved by the Smash fanbase like what happened with Roy, Marth and Lucas. It’s inevitable.

Zelda’s one-offs are side characters like Fi. Fe’s one-off lords are actually main characters and a recent game Awakening drastically changed the series as a whole and was the newest during Sm4sh’s development. It would’ve been foolish to not include a lord from that series.

So you’re trying to say returning stages don’t count toward stage representation? L.

Peridot Gem on July 19 |
          • There is no coincidences. Nobody forced him to add Lucina. Nobody forced him to bring back Roy. Nobody forced him to add Corin. Stop acting like he had to. So he doesn’t because he said so? I guess in that case the whole concept of denial shouldn’t exist.

He’s the main villain of his series, that’s all he needs. He’s to DK as Ganondorf is to The Legend of Zelda; both don’t appear in every game in the series, but are the most iconic and important villains to said series. Splatoon didn’t have an impact on history? Well that’s wrong since it’s one of the best-selling Wii U games and a big brand new IP.

Stop making excuses for one-offs just because they’re from a game you like. Impa and Tingle exist. FE’s only characters that aren’t one-offs are from the first FE game (since most of them returned in Mystery of the Emblem) and Path of Radiance (since most of the returned in Radiant Dawn).

They’re really just padding for the stage list, but If they do count then KI still has more stages than Wario and F-Zero (3 > 2 if both 3DS+Wii U, 2 > 1 if Wii U only).

            MagcargoMan on July 21 |
          • Your point is?… There was leftover time and he added extra. You only don’t like it because they’re clones and they’re Lucina and Dark Pit. Pathetic and a strawman. Your point again? Sakurai didn’t push back potential. Whatever was on top he did. Your excuses mean nothing. 99% of the Smash fanbase either plays a FE character and/or loves FE series.

Tsk tsk, not anymore. He isn’t relevant. Neither to the history either. If so then that’s a shame on how DK is all over the place. King K Rool got dropped and became spinoff fodder. Smash is representing DK at his prime. Arcade DK. Not Country. Don’t like that? Too bad. Bowser also has multiple voices. It does not fucking matter if they pick a certain one for Smash and keeps it that way. Last time I checked Splatoon wasn’t a classic. It did not play a role in Nintendo’s history. Period. It came way too late for Smash. The newest made character was Greninja who has its first debut in 2013. Splatoon came out in around 2014-2015. Inkling wasn’t happening.

Nice to see you have no arguments so you’re resorting to accusations. All Zelda’s one-offs are side characters. Don’t like that? Too fucking bad. Awakening drastically changed and saved FE. That would be downright unfair to not give a character. Your pathetic bias assumptions won’t and don’t mean jack. Impa and Tingle? Desperate for characters much. Impa already got overshadowed. Tingle is not an requirement since he is a joke and can go any way. L.

Strawman after strawman with you. Returning stages count. Your excuses to try to justify that fall flat.

Peridot Gem on July 21 |
          • And yet he choses to give extras to the games that already got newcomers.

Arcade is DK’s prime? Top lel. DKC is D/k’s prime. It’s what made the character who he is today; his design, his personality, his series. Notice how Arcade DK stuff is only referenced in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong games now while in Mario spin-offs DK’s stages are always jungles? I wonder which game started start? You hate DKC so you can’t accept that it’s his prime. Don’t like that? Too bad. Also, hilarious trying to pretend Corrin matters more to Nintendo history than than the Inklings.

As you usual you have no arguments and resort to excuses. Most of FE’s characters are one-offs. Don’t like it? Too bad.

“That would be downright unfair to not give a character.”
Yeah it got a character: Robin. Lucina is unnecessary.

            “Desperate for characters much.”
FE must be since it needs an irrelevant Marth clone who hasn’t appeared in an FE game since the GBA and another Marth clone from a game that already got a newcomer.

Excuse after excuse. KI got more stages than bigger series, even when we count the padding of a tonne of old stages.

            MagcargoMan on July 22 |
          • Like I said. Extra is extra. Sakurai ain’t pushing anything back just because the character is from a series. Strawman.

Strawman again. DK is so popular because of the arcade games. Same case for Mario and basically every series with actual history is known because of the classics. The whole series started because of Arcade DK. DK in Country is even said to be Arcade Donkey Kong’s son. What does that say huh? That Arcade Donkey Kong is most iconic Donkey Kong. You have NOTHING that says otherwise. So what’s the point of dragging this on? You’re not winning this exchange.

Strawman, Strawman and even more strawmen eh? Lords are nowhere near Zelda’s side one-offs. The only exceptions being Impa and Tingle. Who is similar to neglected lords like Lyndis, Hector and such. They had their chance before but was overshadowed by flat out better characters. Melee covers Impa completely, Brawl had lots of plans that didn’t get added in the final product. Shit tons of time issues was there. Nice excuses. Someone can’t take the facts that FE characters got in for different reasons even resorting “HE DIDN’T HAVE TOO!!1′ When certain FE characters were on top of the situation. That is pathetic.

Nice excuses. That Marth clone was still loved by the huge Melee fanbase. They played a role in making him return so it’s on the Smash fanbase, Your excuses to attempt to deny that are straight up ridiclous. “HE DIDN’T HAVE TO” Yes he fucking had too! Melee DLC was a thing. He’s not gonna cancel that or hold stuff back because you don’t like it.

So you don’t have any arguments eh? You didn’t have any points to counter why Zelda’s and FE’s one-offs are different. Yeah you lost.

Mewtwo is an unfinished character that didn’t make it in time to test for DLC not Melee DLC. Strawman. Got no proof that says otherwise.

Arcade DK is the most popular DK. Arcade DK is not only the roots of DK but lots know DK because of Arcade Donkey Kong. You got no proof that says otherwise except for bias toward the Country series. Tsk tsk.

So when are you gonna stop blabbering the same stuff and actually make a good point on this subject? All you’ve been saying is “FE’S ONE-OFFS ARE EXACTLY LIKE ZELDA’S ONE-OFFS HURR DURR” with no base once more. I’ve already proved this point wrong. The lords are not like Zelda’s one-off side kicks. The one-offs in FE that aren’t lords are pretty much an accurate representation of Zelda’s one-offs.

You’re trying to act like you don’t make conspiracies when that’s a baseless conspiracy right there. You have zero solid proof that Mewtwo was held back for money. You’re just making a fool out of yourself.

  11. To be honest, I felt like this video was a bit rambling, and got away from the main topic several times. But to respond to that main topic, I do think that it won’t be ‘Smash’ without Sakurai at the helm. I’m not sure if there’s another director who’d have the attention to detail that Sakurai has in so many aspects of the game. I’m sure there would be certain directors who could steer the game to be more competitive or more casual, more inclusive or more exclusive, or whatever people want, but I think Sakurai has had the foresight to strike a balance to try and give everyone what they want. Even if people complain as much as they do now, you’d get a lot more griping if Sakurai only catered to one audience.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say this again; Melee HD is not that good of an idea. I’ll just sum up my opinions on the matter:
    1) If Melee HD was just a literal HD remake of Melee, casual players wouldn’t buy it because it’d be a huge step down from Smash 4’s content. If you’re not interested in playing a game for competitive reasons, you’re probably not gonna pick the game that has half the characters. And despite what the hardcore audience wants you to believe, Smash in general mostly sells to casual players, which would drastically hurt the sales of a direct port.
    2) If Melee HD were to be an updated Melee with new characters, stages, etc., then it wouldn’t be Melee. There’s a reason people like Melee the way it is now, and adding new stages and characters is undeniably going to shake up the meta and make the transition for Melee’s competitive players harder. They’ll have to learn new matchups that they didn’t have to deal with before, and study how their characters handle on new stages, if they’ll even be new tournament legal stages. I’m not saying a switch is impossible, but it’ll be pretty rocky at the start. Plus, you have to consider that if it was released recently, there’s the possibility of re-balancing the game on release and patches down the line to further balance the game, which will end up making it a very different game from Melee in the end.

If you want to be realistic about this, don’t ask for Melee HD. Ask for a new Smash game with competitive mechanics.
